Well noticed the other week that the faux chrome trim was loosing its chrome under the clear coat however that happened  :( :bang:

Anyhow i tried my VAST collection of cleaners / polishes / rubbing compounds even some very gentle wet sanding and nothing worked it was under the clear coat but was worth a try......

Balanced with trying to get a warranty replacement if past experience is anything to go by cosmetics like this arnt covered past 12 months on the warranty
So i got rather bored and it was annoying me......

anyhow i worked out how the trim was fitted with my fibre optic camera and managed to spot the screws before i did the usual grab and yank.... Snap method  ...

I removed the bumper as per the guides in the guide section

Once the bumper was off the 4 screws were accessible

so removed them and carefully unclipped the clips and got the trim off...

used an 8mm spanner to remove the FIAT badge

then set to work with some p1500 wet and dry paper and rubbed up the trim to key it for primer......

cleaned with Panel prep to degrease

and got the Rattle cans out...

Primed

Black plastic paint...

Then gave it a bit of drying time before clear coating it.....

and refitted once dry

Looks good!(y)
Baffles me why Fiat use such poor quality trim at times, the rear badge on mine is starting to show some discolouration (on the red part), and its only two years old!!

You beat me to it

Looks great though

:nerner:

;)

I used P1500 wet and dry it soon ripped through to the plastic (y) ......

not hard to do at all even the bumper came off really easy just make sure you remove the fog lamps ideally (see my bulb change guide) and reach in the hole and follow the cable upwards to where its mounted on the side of the indicator as its got a cable grip there which is on the bumper itself i removed it then just removed the indicator bulbs at the same time.....

Thanks for the guide. Hope to do the same on my Black Evo. Could you possibly give me a list of the products you used, where to get them and the cost if it is no trouble?

one more question... how is the match of your job to the existing black plastic paint? thanks!

cleaner

Upol gray primer

halfords plastic paint

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_173960_langId_-1_categoryId_165495

now i made a slight mistake but i misted mine with clear coat...

http://www.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/u-pol-power-can-clear-coat-lacquer-500ml-aerosol-2393-p.asp

which i hope increases the hard wearing ness of the finish but it adds a little gloss to it.....

(i had all the paints above in the garage so it cost me nothing by rights i should have used a dedicated plastic primer

Just got the bumper off today to remove the trim. Took roughly 1 hour as some of the star screws were so tight due to rust.

Gave the trim to a mate who paints and would be cheaper than buying my own gear. Should get it back in a few days. But now i'm stuck with a badgeless & trimless car.

Body behind the trim was filthy, gave it a nice wipe down

Great work. I tried to click on the link on how to remove the bumper and it doesn’t work. I’m going to do mine too but spray it white to match the body colour. Any other links on how to remove bumper?
