Hello :D

My Punto Evo Multiair (105) needs a top up of engine oil, the manual recommends 5w 40 fully synthetic. I have some 10w40 fully synthetic Castrol in the garage will this be ok to put in my car or should i stick with what fiat recommends and go buy some 5w40.

Many Thanks (y)

You need to be VERY careful with the oil in newer cars especially where fancy engine technology is involved or the car is still under warrenty

its not just the viscosity of the oil that is important.... the exact specification should also be adhered to

SAE 5W-40 ACEA C3
grade synthetic base lubricant.
FIAT 9.55535-S2 certification

The use of products with characteristics that are not up to ACEA C3 (for petrol engines) and ACEA C2 (for diesel
engines) standard could cause engine damage not covered by the warranty.
For petrol versions with Multi Air system, the use of lubricants with features below ACEA C3 and SAE grade other
than 5W-40 could cause damage to the engine, not covered by the warranty.

Off the shelf Castrol edge meets the specification even though it does say diesel on the bottle it meets FIAT 9.55535-S2

I got the stuff fiat recommends....and then proceeded to put brake fluid in instead < not good advice!

Flushing time then sillybilly! And more than one change of oil. Stick to the 5W recommended oil by the way.

go by the owners manual, thats what our Fiat regional manager says. The manual is a legally binding document and if anything happens to your engine i.e if its under warranty if you put the wrong oil in, say bye bye to you're warranty! If in doubt check the manual!

The manual is a legally binding document

:ROFLMAO:

Fiat better get better proof readers then going by past manuals..... If i cant find the Fuse box on a S1 GP does that mean they will change my fuses for free since they have failed in their "legal" obligation/ duty of care to provide the car owner with the correct location of the fuse box on uk spec cars???

Surely the manual provides information pertinent to the upkeep of the car but not a legal document.... after all you don't sign anything to say you have received it and when i picked my brand new s1 GP up they forgot to give me my copy :bang:

That and past episodes on here of fiat dealers putting the wrong oil in cars at service time.......
