Hello all,

The only downside to all this lovely hot weather we are having at the moment is that I've realised that my air con is no longer working! The light comes on but the revs don't drop and there is no cold air. Anything that I can check myself before I send it in?

Thanks

I used mine yesterday and it seemed ok but today when I used it no real cold air was coming out either.

I didnt use mine since September time last year. Should you use it every now and then just to keep it running ok then?

5-10min once a week as a minimum is recommended to keep the system lubricated.

if you don't run it the oil sits in the bottom of the system not circulating, at every pipe joint are rubber O-rings which under the heat of the engine and cold of the winter dry out crack or perish and let the gas out.

then you have an expensive repair bill to change them all or having to have the system regassed annually another potential problem is where gas can leak out so can the oil leaving the system dry and leading to the aircon pump seizing.

you'll need a vacuum hold pressure test and a regas at the very least (£40-50 most places) with some new oil and uv dye (used to find leaks) added. give it a year and hope for the best.

using aircon in the winter is an extremely quick way to demist the windscreen ;)

I bet its not covered by the warranty?

My aircon just about breaths a little cool at me - its certainly not a very strong cold blast.
Still, soon be back to the rainy season :)
