Hi

Richard Corts Fiat dealer in Bury, Manchester have quoted me £450 for a major service, car is Evo muti air 1.4 GP. Two years old and 11,000 miles. It had a minor service 12 months ago at the same dealer. Does the cost seem right to anyone else?

Thanks
Les

Seems extortionate to me unless the MultiAir engine requires something very special at 2 years. I'd have said around £250 as an absolute maximum if it's just a service.

Corts are meant to be good though, and it's unusual to hear of anything suspicious about them so maybe a MultiAir owner may be able to shed some light on where £450 comes from!

A major service costing what!?

When I bought my car, I bought the service plan aswell so I don't know the exact prices. But a major service is only about 2 hours work?

So based on the above:
Labour: £120 (@£60/hr)
Oil: £50 (Selenia isn't cheap)
Oil Filter: £25 at most
Spark plugs: Surely not at 11000!?
Cabin filter: £15 (Again, At 11,000?)
Other Ancinitries: £30 (Coolant, washer bottle fluid and the such)

So total: £245.

I have just been quoted £463.75 for the 2nd service, which is the major one. Car is currently on 27,000 miles.

Looked into it and they say they will do the sparks, change all filters, oil change, air conditioning etc.

Just can't see what would cost £463.75. I am a high mileage driver due to work, but even so.

Corts quoted me £450, then after I moaned a bit said they would do it for £399. Ended up having it done plus they did some Fiat modification on the engine to prevent misfiring, which it had suffered from on one occasion. Came away feeling like I had been ripped off, they even tried to get me to replace two front tyres at £115 each, despite being more than 3mm of tread remaining.

Will service myself from now on, but on this occasion did not have any free time as car needs to be used all day for my job as a driving instructor.

I have the first 18K service coming up in November, although looking at whats done I can do 98% of it myself.

Anything over £250 for a Punto Service is ridiculous to be honest. I'd expect the cambelt service, which as you might expect is a service and cambelt change to be circa £450-£500, but just for an oil change & spark plugs & filters, anything over £250 is taking the mickey.

I thought Richard Cort were always well regarded, and they might well do a good job, but even in these times when places need to work harder to make money, they've just dropped significantly in my expectations by charging that. The fact they didn't even try to do a competitive deal on tyres to compensate for the high service price is a poor show (n)

The work to prevent misfiring should be free anyway if the car's under warranty, otherwise what's the point in Fiat offering a warranty! I don't blame you for wanting to service it yourself in future.

The price JCS Fiat charged (£177) is much more reasonable, and the sort of good service that i've read frequently regarding them. The Fiat dealer i used for the last 2 services on the Stilo (Pewsham Garages, Chippenham) actually came out cheaper than an independant garage for the last service, so it can be done (y)
