Question Spare Wheel, should i have one?!!

Being a typical girl i never know or check these things, but i have just discovered i have a nail in my tyre. I have alloy wheels and thought would just be best to change the tyre with the spare, however i cannot find a spare or even a jack for that matter!!
Is this normal?

I have a fiat punto evo.

HELP!!!!

Have you looked under the floor of the boot? Where you pull the floor up? Just making sure

Apparently the spare wheel was an option. God knows why. If there isn't a spare then there should at least be a puncture kit of some sort not that it will do any good with a nail stuck in the tyre.

Re: Spare Wheel, should i have one?!!

The evo as a rule doesnt come with a spare or a jack you have the fix and go pump unit BUT if you use this there is a high chance it will knacker the tyre even if it is repairable......

bit late to discover it now

Best option is to either call out a mobile tyre firm or borrow a trolly jack and get the wheel off and get a mate to give you a ride to a local tyre place...

ideally you want to buy one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/jack-kit-f...#ht_1195wt_698

and one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grande-Pun...5#ht_500wt_949

take the fix and go kit and tray out (1 bolt)

then drop the wheel in face down then the tool kit in the well of the wheel

Oh and welcome to the forum

Yes, it was an option I'm glad I ticked (a spare Bridgestone Potenza and jack for £35 made sense to me). If the nail is not in the sidewall you may be able to get it repaired.

Re: Spare Wheel, should i have one?!!

How stupid can manufacturers get, producing a car without a spare wheel??? This is to squeeze every last penny from the customer (us). Its about time we, the customer, made things plain to these money grabbing manufacturers and their oiks what sell them that cars do get punctures and the best way to deal with them is a spare wheel. If you are lucky enough to buy new DEMAND a spare wheel in with the deal. Remember you can always walk away to another dealer. You are the most important person when buying a car.

It's more a case of give them what they want. These days many young professionals would rather squirt a can of tyre weld in and carry on or call the AA to do the same, than actually change the wheel for a spare.
Space saving wheels have safety problems which people driving on them don't acknowledge.
As most new cars command a hefty discount car mats tanks of fuel etc etc I'm sure a spare wheel could be factored in if you felt so strongly.

An to be honest some cars don't even come with provision to hold a spare wheel now so if you do demand it you'll have to put up with a full sized wheel rattling around in the often tiny undersize boot space.

Re: Spare Wheel, should i have one?!!

I too have a new to me evo and I for sure will be getting a spare wheel and jack kit.

I dread going on a long journey without one.
The latex stuff I have wont even work, might as well not be there.

Re: Spare Wheel, should i have one?!!

I've changed a lot of wheels in my (short) time. From tiny 4 inch forklift wheels up to the massive "f**k knows how big" wheels on a 44 ton oshkosh fuel tankers!
I checked my spare last night and what did I find? A whacking great section of the tyre had come away from the rim rendering it absolutely useless.

Last time I changed a tyre was on my stilo about 6 months ago on the M4 just by the bridge tolls. I'd had a blow out, it was pitch black and pouring down with rain. I go to take the spare out but it's stuck in there, the retaining nut has seized solid so I had to snap the bolt off to get it out! So, dripping wet and freezing cold I take that jack out and lay it out ready to lift the car. I go to crack the nuts aaaand....They've seized as well. I had to call out the AA to get me back to Cardiff. He couldn't get those things to turn even with 6 feet of steel pipe acting as leverage on his ratchet!
Turns out the clowns at the tyre place (3 day old tyre) has used an air gun on the bolts. Every. Single. One. All four wheels as well as the spare (which they did as a courtesy) Would have helped if they'd fitted the right &$%£ing tyre

Moral of the story is, sometimes no matter what you do you have to call out the AA.
