Talking 1.6 MJ or 1.4 turbo Multiair?

I'm looking at getting on down to LC motors and maybe just possibly buying an evo to replace my old stilo JTD wagon but I'm stuck in a horrible dilemma!

1.6 MJ or 1.4 multiair? And if I were to go for the 1.4 would I be better off with a turbo or n/a?
I've had a quick look/see at the stats but everywhere I read the 135 is more efficient and cleaner than the 105! Surely that can't be right?
I'm tempted by the 1.6 MJ with it's £30 a year tax but the fuel is quite a bit more expensive and I have a family who are VERY anti diesel for some bizarre reason..

And just one more question, last one! Honest!
What are the gains from remapping on the turbo'd pair?

Many thanks boyos! I'm like a teenager the night before getting his first car! Can't wait!

Before I forget, has anyone here binned that nasty tacky looking chrome bit on the front?

Re: 1.6 MJ or 1.4 turbo Multiair?

Iíve got the 1.4 Turbo and in my opinion yes itís a good little engine, economically speaking its fairly good and it has a decent amount of power on tap.
Donít know about a remap but I have the TMC box and I would say it gives enough extra power to match the standard Abarth version. (Iíve just got my hands on a set of Abarth Evo springs and shockers to see if I can replicate the Abarthís handling )
I canít really comment on the 1.6 M-Jet although it is suppose to be a good engine also.
Itís a tough choice it just comes down to what you think youíd prefer really.

Donít know if youíve ever driven a Grande Punto but the Evo feels like a heavier more solid car in comparison.

Re: 1.6 MJ or 1.4 turbo Multiair?

I never really got on with the old grande. Those grandes just felt too clinical and soulless especially compared to the cars I've had in the past. Steering that was far too light and lacking in feedback/feel. It's why I chose the stilo instead when the time came to get rid of the mk2 I used to have.
A Bravo is out, It's just a tad too wide for where I'm going to keep it. Not that it won't fit but having an extra inch or two to play with is no bad thing! And it was tight enough with my stilo! Every time the binmen came I'd get up early to see what they're saying* about my car

Although come to think of it, the steering thing may have been down to the 14 ton bedford TMs I drove for work back then

*By saying I mean cursing

Re: 1.6 MJ or 1.4 turbo Multiair?

I have a 1.6 Mjet. It's a good engine, but as with all cars disregard the mpg figure the manufacturer quotes.
I get between 52-55mpg without driving economically. Power kicks in at about 1200-1300rpm and continues well past 2300rpm. With the traction control off I did spin the wheels in 3rd the other day by accident so there's plenty of torque.
If you're planning a remap/box then I'd go down the line of the 1.4 turbo as it's a much more proven mod on the evo, you'd have to look at the grande and bravo forums to check about remaps.
Thanks The Free(welsh)man thanked for this post

Re: 1.6 MJ or 1.4 turbo Multiair?

Well, I've gone and done it. I went and bought an evo but sadly they didn't have a multiair or even a 1.6 in and as I needed a car quickly I ended up settling on a 1.4 8v dynamic. 10 plate with 600 miles for £8000. Not too shabby methinks.

If I'm not happy with in in a few months I could always part ex her and get another.
I pick her up at 1400 tomorrow from LC motors in newport
