And the irony is if some mad pshycotic axe-man had been knocking on your front door and she had turned up you would have been kissing her arse and offering your first born child to make him go away.

Here is my opinion.......Cut the plod some slack and wise up to the fact that individuals dont know everything. If it had gone to court we all know what the outcome would have been so why carry on about who was right and who was wrong. They do a damned good job and get FA respect for it. As far as I am concerned the only person you are making an arse out of is yourself ffs.

so police can read his post and not have to waste time stopping other cars for it maybe

I may be mistaken but I'm fairly sure that the Police don't use car forums as a source of information on motoring/construction & use legislation.

Back on the topic of what law trumps what.

Cars are homologated in whichever their country of origin is. To be sold in the EU they have to meet the EU's "umbrella" regulations. It must then meet the local regulations unless they contradict the EU regulations, those of the original homologation or safety, best example is which way the headlight dips.

It basically means that as long as it meets EU regs and will pass an MOT or equivalent it can be sold anywhere in the EU.

It is more complicated than that, but it's coming from someone who works for in automotive design department.

For companies that homologate cars in the UK, eg Jaguar, Land Rover, Nissan, Honda etc.
