I have ordered a new Evo GP model, and wanted a white 5 door with red and black interior, but the dealer has rang me to tell me he couldn't find any in inventory and it would be end of october before one would be available. This isn't really feasible for me and so I have been asked to come down to the dealer and discuss options, which most likely will be, pick a different colour, and obviously the price will increase, or stay with white and go for black-grey interior, unless I go for a 3 door, which is out of the question at this point

I'm posting because I know in the showroom there is a Chemical Grey 5 door with red-black interior in the showroom, and was wondering if anybody had any experience with trying to get a showroom model? I am wondering if they would do the showroom model for no extra charge, or a heavy discount, but have to wait to go down to the dealer to find out. Also would you recommend it? is there common issues that surround showroom purchased models?

do you mean a demo car or one that simply sitting in the dealers?
one thing i would say is make sure you make a choice you will be happy with
no point rushing to buy a car only to reget it every time you see noe in the spec you wanted

yeah one sat in the dealers. Its a weird one because I actually preferred to have the car in Chemical Grey or Flamenco Red, with the red-black interior, but couldn't afford the extra for the metallic paint, so 'settled' for white (but I do like white, nevertheless!). I suppose this is fairly similar, in that I'd prefer red-black interior, but at the same time I wouldn't be too heartbroken to have to 'settle' for black-grey.

With my current finance agreement on my car It's pretty much change now or stick with it for the remaining 3 years. Which is annoying as I'm getting a little bored of it, and its also impractical due to a change in circumstances, so now really want a 5 door, and buying used with finance is about the same monthly payments, if not more than buying new from what I've been offered so far (unless I buy a really old car, which is even further from what I want), so obviously the choice is made for me.

I guess my question is more centred around if people have bought the showroom model (the one sat inside) before or if they would recommend it.

obviously folks with experience will give an answer
for me that car is dead money to the dealer as it sits on the showroom
I would expect ot pay less than list for it at least
a lot will come down to the dealers margins, slaes performace etc
might be worth sounding out what the dealer offers but dont agree no the day
go away and post what they offer and see what folks think

I was also annoyed at the long lead times (as I could also end my finance agreement now), as I wanted 5 door multiair in red with the red black interior.

In the end I found a used one, which even had a sunroof I would have loved but would have never paid £700 for.

They are still only a few months old, and I have seen less than one year old ones for £7700 (but more for the 16v Multiair).

You can still get PCP on a used one which reduces the monthly payments, if you are not that fussed about ever owning it.

I trest drove the 1.4 MuliAir 16v (105), and obviously it was their demo car.Now this car had 2 prices on windscreen, one was £12,800 and the other was £10,850. I asked salesman what the score was, and he told me that the higher was retail price and the lower was Arnold Clark selling price as the car was now a pre-reg one and new owner would be the actual 2nd owner of car, after A/ Clark

I would be looking for a fair bit off retail price of car if I was buying the demo car, and would be hiding my prefference for car from salesman.

The car I test drove only had 47 miles on clock, so it had not been used a lot for testing, but I have heard that garages are supposed to have car for at least 3 months before selling at cheaper price (as pre-registerred) by which time the mileage should be higher than one I drove

the one in the showroom will be for sale. regardless.

i work in the trade and dead money is not good the cars must move before then lose value. the one in the showroom is either sold or for sale. if it has a price in the window you can buy it.

they may lower the value but you'll find its hardly any mileage if any at all and is still basically new. except people may of opened it and sat in it. but any car on site can have that done. just say if i have to wait till sept/oct ill take that one today. and they'll bite your arm off unless they have hit all targets, but even so salesmen only earn when they sell. they get wages paid by commission.

it may be registered as a demo to the dealer but unlikely as demo's arent kept in the showrooms.

kingchris - I also found a used one at the arnold clark next door, for under £8000, but with the interest rate on the finance, even if I had a bank loan, it would have been more expensive per month than me buying new!

I took a look at the showroom model and though its what I want, there were things I noticed that put me off it, so I think I will just go for grey-black interior, unless they throw in metallic paint for free and I get red-black interior. I doubt they will throw in free paint though, the car is heavily reduced as it is because the dealer was short of their monthly target by 1 car, and and is was only a day before month end, really wanted a sale. It'll be worth a shot though, worse thing they can say is no :p

I'm aware, but I wonder how many people pay the balloon at the end? or just sign a new deal.

Unless mine is involved in a bad accident (hope not!!) or has serious problems I'm 90% I will. They will want £4k for a four year old car with around 25k miles.

an update on the situation: I went back to the dealer to discuss my options, and ended up taking the showroom model after an extensive inspection by myself and my girlfriend. It all looks good and is in chemical grey with the red-black interior, which is the colour I originally wanted but couldn't afford the extra for metallic paint. The showroom model also comes with body coloured rubbing strips, and a spare wheel (normally comes with tyre repair kit doesn't it?), and for only £3 more per month, which I think is a pretty sweet deal.

I pick it up later today (hopefully) :) bit of a game with the insurance. They wouldn't fax the insurance certificate to the garage until the time I want to change the car (3pm), so I have to hope they remember to fax it, as the dealer said it could take up to an hour to sort out the tax and the admin staff leave at 4pm, so it will be a tight schedule!

I don't get why the admin staff leave at 4....the garage is open 'til 8!

I also had to go down to the dealer with my dad on Saturday as he has to be a guarantor (sp?) for the finance and he needed to sign some documents. Not sure why i need one. With my previous car it was because I was under 21, but now a month off 22, so it baffles me. I had a peak inside the car again while that was going on, and noticed the ASR OFF button on the dash. Had a look in the brochure and that appears to be another extra that they seemed to forget the car had!

I think I may have mistimed getting my car considering what's going on! I'm barely sleeping, checking the road/car every time I hear a noise :(
