Hi new to this forum and as title says I have bought a new punto evo and am asking if the service plan is worth getting. For those that dont know, the plan. you pay for your next 2 or 3 years service in advance, £249 for 2 years and £349 for next 3 years.

I asked salesman to find out prices for said services before I made a decision and he came back with piece of paper stating prices. £195 for 1st year, £300 for 2nd and £190 for 3rd. I said that these semmed a bit steep and wondered if he had exaggerated prices so as to make deal seem sweeter, but was informed that prices varied depending on which version of car you had and this was price for my evo sporting (135).

I have looked on website but cannot seem to find prices for services.

i am tempted to go for this as if true then deal is half price, have any of you guys gone for this?

That does seem a bit steep. To be honest I just wouldn't pay that amount for services. On my last car, a grande sporting, i took it to a local garage who was vat registered and they did it with the proper fiat service pack. It always came under £100. For this car I bought it from Verve in Kilmarnock. There did a service plan for £199 though it is now £299. I got it heavily discounted so that was pretty good. Try bartering with them, even get it thrown in for free.

They wont throw it in for free, as they are not making any money off of me.The big financial investment company that own Fiat also own the company that I work for, so we get staff discount :D. All Arnold Clark get is an administration fee.

Does anyone know the price of services for a 1.4 16 multi air (135) then, Someone must have paid for 1 recently

I order a new punto on saturday and the dealer said it isn't worth it as new punto's are only serviced every 2 years /18,000 miles. Obviously if you do high miles then it would be worth looking into a service plan, but I thought I'd register and let you know what I have been told. Whether this applies to ALL fiats, or just fiats bought from Arnold Clark Fiat, i don't know?

Service should be every year or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first.

That's what I thought, so I asked the dealer to double check and he said that it was 2 years now. I think I may ask again when I pick up the motor, when ever that is.

Thanks for replies, two different time scales, and although I was quoted prices for 1,2 & 3year services I will wait till start of Sept to make up my mind.I still think the young salesman was trying it on with prices though.

Thanks steebWBA for registering just to reply to me, very decent of you. What evo did you buy?

Must admit I would find it very difficult to believe that Fiat would have now changed the servicing intervals from 1 – 2 Years. I tend to think that the sales person has been talking **** I would advise you to double check it with Fiat customer services.

No problem, I saw this forum when I was looking for information on the punto with regards to common problems, insurance, etc and wanted to register but your thread kicked me into gear (pardon the pun). With regards to the model I went for, I went for the Evo GP :) Just waiting for the dealer to find one from another branch if they can, as my car part-ex value will drop a fair amount if they ordered one from the factory as it will take over 4 weeks, and the 61 plates will be out. Seems a white 5 door with the red and black interior is fairly rare though!

and TJ07 - I too have my doubts. I imagine it will be in the manual for the car? I'll check that before I sign anything. If its very year then my opinion is that its cost effective to take out a service plan, but just seems strange that when I said I wanted the service plan the dealer said it wasn't worth having as they have changed service intervals to every 2 years  I've not known/owned a car with such service intervals, its always been yearly.

.

I also liked the red and black interior, but it was with red coloured car, and looked very nice, but we already have exotica red Grande and did not want same colour of car as with shape being the same, it would be hard to tell we had just splashed out on a new one :).

Also the 8v Gp would have been almost identical in performance to the 1.4 sport we already have

Yeah, gotta make it obvious its a new one! Unfortunately they couldn't find a white 5 door with red-black interior (talked about in another thread), so I may go for grey-black interior instead, unless they throw in metallic paint as a freebie, but I doubt it. The grey-black is still nice though, I do like the white contrast stitching around the steering wheel and gearstick.

used cars have a much higher interest rate when it comes to finance, and would be higher monthly payments as a result. The deal I'm getting is very good and is about that price with the dealer and fiat contributions, and they also gave me a very high valuation for my car as part ex, which no one else has come come to, which has made the car affordable. Thank you for pointing it out though :)

Just a quick update on the servicing intervals. I went to the dealer yesterday and asked the salesman again, and he said it was 2 years. I then asked to see the service engineers/ servicing department manager to double check, and they also said that new punto's are 18000 or 2 years.

Thanks, did he say how much they charge. Not that the service plan is of any use now

I ddin't ask him when I went down the other day, but when he initially told me about it I seem to recall him saying a service would be between £150-£230. But the upshot is that without the service plan you can go anywhere that will service the car to fiat's standards, which will most likely be cheaper. For instance I had the 2nd year service on my mazda2 at mazda, and it was £230. The 3rd year I went to my parent's neighbours garage to get it serviced and MOT'd, and it was £195. The service plan, as far as I know will tie you down to specific garages,

I also got told in the showroom that servicing is now every 2 years which is great. This was back in July... Only about 3 weeks til I pick it up now !
