Hi,
just ordered a new Evo, and was of course offered gap insurance and suregard paint protection.

Has anyone else gone for these things and are they worth it?

I've deferred my choice until later.

I usually just dismiss extra insurances out of hand, but this is a £13k car, not a £300 fridge.

Not sure about Sureguard but for GAP insurance you will find it VERY much cheaper with an On-line Insurance company than you will from your dealership.

Gap insurance shop about... (they reduced the price when i told them i could get it cheaper)

as for the paint protection tell them to wobble and get on e-bay

look up

Autoglym life shine kit

Superguard kit

Guard x kit

in all reality for what your dealer will charge you for it your better off putting the £250 or so asside and going shopping for car care stuff (see car care section if you want ideas on what to spend your money on but in my evo's case first thing i needed was Fall out remover......

would recommend gap insurance just search the web, directgap . co.uk will do it for around £100 so there is a saving to be had.

with the supaguard i had it done to my car and dont really think its value for money for what you get, you can simply go to halfords and other shops to get the same sort of gear for alot cheaper price. but it goes come in a nice black case and that lol.

A decent wax will give a much better shine and better protection for much less. Collinite 476 is a great hard wearing wax and works well over the winter. I find that will last around three months after application. Something like Autoglym HD Wax or Dodo Juice Supernatural look amazing in the summer, both are easily found online.(y)

I'm with all of the above, GAP is a good idea, but search the web for better deals.

Don't bother with supaguard, especially if you are prepared to put a bit of effort in yourself, there are some good waxes out there, supaguard is a nice little earner for the dealers.

Thanks very much for your replies, makes things much clearer.

Directgap.co.uk seem to be pretty good and cover everything the dealer insurance covers. I'll take it to the dealer and se what they can do.

I assumed the Supagard was something the dealer did to the car, not just a bag of car wash goodies. I'll forget that then!

Thanks again, just have to wait for the weekly build update emails now.

the dealer "puts" the sealent on for you however how well this is done depends on the dealer and you get a bag of their shampoo and a few other things usually

the interior protector is good especially if you have kids or have a dirty job

but far cheaper to DIY it

i ent for the GAP insurance after getting a VERY VERY good deal with my dealership I only paid 70 pounds for it roughly in the end! I think its a good thing because if you was to have an accident and you dont take it you will regret it whereas at least if you get it you know its there if you was ever to need it your covered!

Both products are good if you can use them.

Paint protection is great for those peeps who don't really care for their cars and who don't wash and wax regularly.

GAP insurance is only good if you write the car off. BUT is worth every penny if you do. Having said that it's worth the peace of mind just in case. Check to see if the dealer will price match the Internet, as some will.
