1.6 MultiJet Sporting

Hi Guys,

I have had my 1.6 MultiJet Punto Evo Sporting on order for about 2 weeks now. And as I'm probably one of the most impatient people I know I have been killing the quoted 2 month waiting time by reading this forum daily.

One thing I have noticed is that the Punto Evo section seems to be absolutely rammed full of problems.

I know that this is probably due to this being the place to go if you have problems and not many people will post a new thread just to say how they have had no problems.

This however has started getting me worried. So how often do people get problems? I.e. has anyone here had a brand new punto evo and not had a problem with it?

It might be worth mentioning that this is the very first time I have bought brand new.

Some peace of mind would be lovely

Ash

Thanks T, not sure if thats a good thing but its certainly an improvement. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope the people building my car have just been given a nice bonus or other incentive to pay extra attention

Fortunately if I do have problems the dealer is only a 5 minute walk from work so I can keep leaving it with them while they sort it fully and save on parking at work at the same time.

Re: 1.6 MultiJet Sporting

There have been problems reported on here, but as T said they are more few & far between than the Grande Punto. Several problems on the Grande were down to poor interior quality (glovebox & heating vent issues for example) but on the Evo, Fiat have put in a completely new dashboard & interior, which feels much more solid. They've effectively done abit of a VW trick - taken the bad bits out of a car & replaced it with something better.

It's also the case that when reading owner reviews on places like Auto Trader, the owners are totally happy with their Evo, therefore i do think that whilst it's true the Evo has its problems, it can seem more serious when looking on here because people generally come here via Google when searching for solutions to problems. Theyre less likely to join up just to say 'i love my Evo', for example.

Being the flagship Evo Sporting M-Jet, i also have an incline it'll be put together with more care than usual. Just seems to me after owning/driving a number of Fiats that the higher spec or rarer cars tend to get more Quality Control than the lower ones. Seems strange but i do wonder.

Liam

Re: 1.6 MultiJet Sporting

I have a Grande Punto 1.6 MJ Sporting so I hope I`m not standing on to many toes by posting on this forum. As the 1.6 engine is the same as the Evo I thought I would bring up the DPF issue again, much bad news of which is posted elsewhere on the Fiat Forum.I was actually advised by the dealer that"as I am a low mileage user that this may not be the car for me" but I could`nt resist it once I had seen it.I write here to to dispel any fears you may have,I am still a low milage user and have had no problems with the DPF,occasionally the generic warning light illuminates and the digita panel advises that the"anti pollution filter is clogged see handbook"all this means is that you need to keep driving until the warning light goes out[takes about 20 mins on average] no need to go tearing down the motorway to help the burnoff temperature, the process is completey automatic, just keep the engine running,in fact this process is also happening at other times and you will not be aware of it.I think the only issue is that it is not advisable to keep restarting the engine if the warning light shows and the burnoff process has started so could be a bit inconvenient if you do a lot of stop start driving.Congratulations on choosing the 1.6 MJ Sporting its a terrific engine I`m sure you wont regret it.

Re: 1.6 MultiJet Sporting

People only really post on here when they have problems so this forum won't give you the full picture of it's reliability. I've had my Evo Sporting since last october and the only issues I've had were a squeaking clutch pedal and a hose from the boost solenoid splitting, both were sorted while I waited at the dealers. I don't think that's bad for a new car and I'd still pick my Evo over the other cars I had in mind at the time (DS3, Audi A1 etc).

Re: 1.6 MultiJet Sporting

Thanks guys,

I hope all will be fine with it but I will go through it with a fine tooth comb before I take delivery. And then as I said as its only a 5 minute walk to work from the dealer if there are any problems I can keep pestering them until it gets sorted.

I shall post pictures when it turns up .

Only a month and a half to wait..............

Re: 1.6 MultiJet Sporting

I've worked in car dealerships over the year and have seen ultra-reliable cars in for tedious petty jobs.

Even the Civic Type-R has huge issues with their gearboxes, but all you hear is how good the engine is. In fact my missus has had more problems with her Honda than I have had with my Punto Evo Sporting.
