Start stop - How long does yours stop for?

As the title suggests. How long does your start stop keep the engine off for before the automatic restart?

Mine never seems to stay off for any more than 10 seconds at a time. I can't really rely on it anymore as it seems completely pointless. It did go through a phase that lasted about 1000 miles between 5k to 6k of staying off for the full duration of a red light but now it is fairly consistant.

the Fiat dealer did check it out before returning it with "no fault found".

do you do lots of short journeys?

the battery must have sufficient charge to start the car the little Bosch module on the - battery post monitors the battery charge and makes the car start should the charge level drop.

Having the DRL's on CD player, cold air blower on will all hammer the battery resulting in a faster restart went for a long drive last weekend and mine settled down and stayed off till i needed it to restart initally i was having the same issues you are

Re: Start stop - How long does yours stop for?

I've barely covered 600 miles in mine, but when I ask the stop start to kick in, the engine stays stopped until I lift the clutch, which can be a while.

I'm inclined to go along with Andy Monty's views that it may be battery related.

Battery must be in 100% condition & charge or else it will restart itself.

your supposed to go into neutral then lift the clutch to stop the engine.

over the first few hundred miles if the car is new (in my case anyway) it didn't work at all then all of a sudden it began to cut in for about 10 seconds now its working like it should.... in the manual it explains the car "learns" what the battery is like from new and goes on that info for the start stop system to work

Re: Start stop - How long does yours stop for?

Battery needs to be fully charged, short journeys don't charge the battery enough so it either wont turn off the engine at all, or it'll restart the engine after just a few seconds. (also depends if air-con is turned on as additional drains on the battery can cause it to restart the engine)

And at times, (3 times now over 6000 miles) it might not even restart the engine at all & give you a loud beep to indicate your about to look very stupid.

Currently my S&S doesn't come on, hasn't for a few weeks now... I like it that way, But I do have a long journey coming up which i'm sure will top out the battery again and it'll come back to life.

Stop&Start is like trusting a toddler with your car keys, it'll stop start when it feels like it or it might just lose the key.

Re: Start stop - How long does yours stop for?

The longest mine has stopped for is 20 seconds. the average seems to be 10 seconds. I have my radio and DRL's on but it makes no difference. if i have full headlights and fast fan on the engine stays off for the same amount of time.

The whole system seems completely pointless, the only thing it is doing is encouraging me to hold it on the clutch or turn the engine off completely when i stop.

Mine didn't work until around 10 miles was on the clock, then it suddenly kicked in. Never had a problem since (fingers crossed!). It also stays off until I push the clutch back in, unless I'm stationary for around 5-10 minutes.
