Afternoon everyone,

First time I've been over to this side of the forum as a 500 owner!:D

I'm interested to know what owners that have the 1.2 8v engine think of it in their Punto Evos?

It works a treat in our 500, and whilst it's never going to be a scorcher in terms of performance, does it still provide acceptable grunt in the Punto?

Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone

I've got the MyLife which has this engine. It's not what you'd call torquey (my other car is a 4 litre+ V8 though!) but it does the job, and (remarkably) feels pretty solid on even A-roads / motorway.

It is quite sluggish, but I was expecting that. The MyLife is exactly what Fiat market it as, all the car you need, in a nice cheap package.

I would echo everything Tommy 1978 says, my other car is a V6 3 litre diesel, which provides all the grunt I need.

The Punto was bought as an inexpensive city run around, for which it is perfect.

I've only covered 400 miles in it so far, so I'm guessing the engine is still very tight, but we did a 3 up 250 mile trip in it the other weekend with mixed road running and apart from hilly A-roads where you needed to anticipate the traffic flow and get ready to drop a gear, it performed well.

Thanks for the input so far.

Sounds encouraging for both of you. The reason I asked is because we may well move away from the 500 next time round as we need more space, and so the Panda and Punto Evo are both options.

I really think it's a great engine and so I wouldn't hesitate to go for another Fiat with it in. OK, you have to give it some welly to get up hills, but it's fun if nothing else! And economy is excellent too without being a bore to drive.
