I've noticed one of my headlights has obviously gained heat damage & will need to be replaced. (Sorry, not giving too much info atm til I know where I stand)

I was wondering if they'll point out there's none-standard (but right spec) bulbs fitted would Fiat argue out of the warranty?

I don’t doubt that they will try it on for that very reason, however in the manual it only states fitment & wattage therefore as long as the bulbs used are the same fitment & wattage they don’t really have a leg to stand on. So I would not accept any nonsense.

Booked it in for friday, I'll take the bulbs out & double check there right before taking it in just to be on the safe side (but i'm sure they are as everyone who changes there drl are using them)

Anything non standard not covered by warranty, why should it be ? With you not giving much away cant comment any further.

So if a bulb goes you've got to get a replacement directly from fiat then? I think not.

The bulbs used are the same as the standard bulbs as specified in the owners manual. If a specific brand was to be used then it would have to be stated in the manual, however the replaced bulbs do conform to that stated in the manual. For example if you were to replace a tyre there is no specified brand only the size and load/speed rating etc. The same applies to the bulbs!

I'm not giving too much away right now encase Fiat do check these forums.. (Which apparently they do)

But the aftermarket bulb package says "MTEC - T20 7440 - 12V-21W" - Which matches the stock bulb i've taken out.

I'm just hoping Fiat don't turn around & blame mtec and tell me to chase them up instead.

Tell them to jog on if they do, you used the correct spec bulb so they must sort it out.

Yep that's what im thinking...

But im warey, with Phillips / Bosch etc I have a leading consumer brand that Fiat wont want to argue over...but mtec, some random japanese brand... if there spec's are off, I have no come back.

We shall find out tomorrow...

I had the same thing happen 2 me I put the original bulbs back in and took it back 2 the garage

It was fixed under warranty, but I put the original bulbs in before hand.

And I enquired about what if such a problem theoretically happened with after-market bulbs, basically if its a main brand bulb it'll be no problem but if its something more obscure (mtec...) then it'd have to be "investigated"

I don't think ill use the mtec bulbs again, so that means im on the lookout for some white look main-brand DRL bulbs.

Cool well atleast you got it replaced though, I wonder if the m-tecs were the cause of the problem.

Yeah im wondering that too, I might take a closer look at the other lamp to see if theres any sign of damage.

I know someone asked about mtec bulbs / heat once before but don't know if anything came of it

Just checked mine and they are fine!

I think your right about someone mentioning a problem with scorch marks after fitting mtec bulbs, although I’m pretty sure is was headlight bulbs rather than DRL’s.
I’ve had a quick search through google on mtec bulbs and cant find any real issue with them, most people seem to be fairly happy with them (mainly Honda owners though).

You know what needs to be done?! Someone needs to test the originals & then the mtecs & see if there running hotter that the standards using a food phobe or something.

If it's under warranty then yes because they are fixing it for you for free, saying that the parts department would probably supply tech doing the job with cheap crap bulbs anyway!

stop being paranoid, take car to the garage to get sorted. Quite sure no one is going to lose any sleep over a headlight.

get with the times! already done & sorted.

The driver side headlight had gone cloudy above the DRL, upon removal of the bulb the area the bulb fits into had been melted away so it was more of an oblong than a circle.
