as described by the girl at the garage service desk !
Hi Folks,
i have a wee problem which i haven't seen anywhere and i thought i'd share with you.

Basically, my indicators have an iternittent mind of their own !
Sometimes, when turning (mainly right), the indicators will stop for no reason - it can be one 'click' that is missed or dozens.
On other occasions, the indicators don't work at all - i think they get fed up of being on and off and on and off...

A bit more worrying is when the indicator stalk is cancelled, either manually or by the steering wheel straightening up - sometimes the indicators continue to click a few more times in the original direction.

What's REALLY upsetting is, again when the indicator stalk is cancelled, the indicators start to click in the opposite direction !

It's very distracting driving along and not knowing if and when the indicators will work properly or indicate incorrectly and potentially cause an accident.

Car is with Fiat now for fixing - they said it was 'no fault found' last time they had it.

Just realised i should have registered as Herbie :D

cheers
Derek

Hey.
Did they manage to fix it?
I seem to have the same issue with my right indicator.
The left works Ok, but the right seems to have bad contact.

Sounds like an earthing issue somewhere in the loom. Had a similar problem with my headlights on the Honda. Fixed that and no further issues.

I actually took several indicator blocks apart some years ago, on older cars.
The principle is probably the same, some contacts moving inside plastic rails, closing electric circles with stationary contacts. One of them is probably shifted or dirty.
I'll update after a visit to a professional.

Thanks for the link.
This does not sound like the same issue, though.
Mine feels more mechanical, as if there is a bad contact.
Sometimes, when the right indicator is engaged, it "fakes", skips a beat, or stops indicating, until I move the steering wheel a bit.

Finally had some free time to go and get this sorted.
The garage took the steering wheel apart and replaced the lights unit under warranty.
Everything is working now, although the mechanic did some damage to the plastic surrounding the steering wheel. :S

Nope, actually he missed one screw and tried to use a flat head screwdriver to separate the 2 halves of the plastic, covering the lights unit :bang:
He did some damage, before realizing his error.
