ok ive had my 1.4 evo gp for few weeks now, only done 400 miles on clock. was on motorway today and it struggled to do over 70mph :bang:, when i try and go over 70 it makes soooo much noise, like a loud reving noise. is there something wrong or is it just coz everything is still new?

Sounds very wrong what was the rev meter saying?
I assume your using sixth gear? pretty sure 5th will do 75-80 but the engine will be reving hard, should be using 6th anytime after about 45mph

It must be the 8 valve model then if it has 5 gears, the 16 valve GP has 6 gears.
It should certainly be capable of going over 70mph without a fuss providing its in 5th gear, so yes I would get that checked out by the dealer.
The only thing I would check is was it defiantly in 5th gear?
Perhaps you had slipped it into 3rd by accident, do you remember what the revs were sitting at?

Sounds about right.... the 8 valve engine is great around town but does seem to get a little bit breathless at high speed on the motorway. Mine was a lot more smooth and eager after it had done about 4,000 miles though.
thanks. i phoned fiat (who questioned why i was trying to do over 70mph in the 1st place oops :s) and he said to leave it till ive done at least 5,000 miles. hope mines is smoother after a while, gotta put music on full blast to drain out the sound xx

Got the 8v gp as well and must say its the worst 10k ive ever spent on a car.I hate everything about it from no power to terrible mpg to rattling everything and feeling totally unsafe in windy conditions on motorways.I struggle to get to 70mph as well and when at 70 you think your in 3rd gear as its rattling its brains out.If it waseant financed it would have been sold within 1 week of ownership tbh
I do agree with you slightly I paid £14,300 for mine n it soooo aint worth that. I do love it but for one thing all the problems i have had with it, i have since reading about the rattling on the passenger side have noticed that. I wouldnt say mine struggles to get to 70mph cause it doesnt but it does sound like its revving slightly loudly at 70mph
I have the 1.4 8v, I dont think it struggles to get to 70+, only problem it revs a little loud doing that, but meh
