Ok so my car stop starts fine, then if i dont put my foot on clutch it starts after about 5 minutes which i know is normal thats fine but then if i haven't moved for another 5 minutes my car cuts out all together and i have to turn the key off and then re-start the car is this normal or am i right in thinking this is not right?

you will find this is perfectly normal for thew start stop system, it restarts after 5 mins like you said and then cuts out if car hasnt been moved for another five to keep the car economical:D and you have to restart by key or this is what it states in the owners manual i have

I thought I understood how start stop worked but if I really dont. I dont get why it says 'start stop unavailable' the engine has cut off and I have to restart with the key back and forth, surley if its not available then it shouldnt turn my engine off:eek: I feel a bit of a idiot in the supermarket car park having to turn my key off and on looking like i've stalled it

Start stop just annoys me. I keep my clutch down (y)

Same!

Occasionally if i'm at a known set of generous traffic lights i'll let S&S take over.

I totally agree, if its not gonna be available then why turn off ! :bang:

Indeed, i actually had my S&S turn off the engine... 20-30 seconds later the engine came back on, fair enough..... and 10 seconds after that the engine turned off & beeped saying "Start&Stop Unavailable" so i had to use the key, this seemed pretty ridiculous.

I was sitting on a downward facing bridge exit, car in neutral, handbrake on, foot off clutch.

S and S shut the engine down.

As the lights turned green I put the handbrake off and let the car roll forward. At about 10 mph it started itself without any further input from me.

I was bored, sorry.

Cheers

Yes this is what mine does thats why it fooled me! But as long as its normal thats ok.

i generaly dont use it as when i did, it cut off everywhere and occasionaly would just 'stall' which got really annoying so now im in a habit of disableing it everytime i start my car
