The guy on this thread says he has Media Player under his Car Menu on TomTom, and lets him pick genre/artist etc via the TomTom screen. (Which is the reason i actually bought the tomtom - and found it didn't do it.)

Personally, my B&M TomTom doesn't even have a Media Player option on it at all (i'm sure it used to before an update)....

So i'm wondering does anyone else with B&M TomTom have Media Player under there car menu?

I've got a bad feeling this is another country related thing!

Edit:

This video also clearly shows, Media Player.

Mine has the option but the option (including music files) just says string not found. I've been onto tomtom about it and they blamed the car, wouldn't mind trying my tomtom in another car to see if it is or not.

Have you updated your TomTom?

Just wondering because i'm sure when mine was fresh out of the box i had the Media Player function but an update has completely removed any signs of it :/

I have the media icon but selecting it gives me the option of Document Reader or Photo Gallery. Nothing else. I updated the software the day I got it to what is reported as current (v9.014.580798.10, OS 567329) if that's any help. I'll stick some tunes on my microSD card later and stick it in to see if it recognises them and report back after I've connected it to my car which I am picking up Friday morning. Yay!

I've written an email to Fiat UK & TomTom, so hopefully between the two i'll get some form of answer.

Plus i'll bring it up at the dealership on Friday.

A Quick update..

FiatUK have replied, asking for information on the car & dealership etc - which i've given them, and they'll reply within 2 days.

TomTom have also replied, and are asking for additional information on my tomtom device (which i've given them)

So now we wait! :)

Hey Guys,

My TOMTOM unit has not been updated but has never had the Media Player option?? I'm very excited to hear it potentially could do in the future as it is pretty much the only way it could be improved!! Love how the TOMTOM connects to everything!!

Cheers,
Craig

Same here, mine has no media player function on any level, which strikes me as strange.

I'm going to dealership tomorrow so i'll ask them & hopefully grab the tech guy so i can ask him about it (he seemed straight up in past discussions)

Dealership has told me that "New" Evo's i.e 60 plate onwards have a different Blue&Me control unit in them meaning they can do the tomtom media player.

and most 10 plates cant unless they were given the "new" blue&me control unit

Shall no doubt hear the same thing from TomTom/FiatUK but atleast now we know.

Right, now I have a car to plug my B&M Tomtom unit into, I have been able to check this for you.

With the unit unplugged and running as a standalone, the Media Player option simply gives document reader and picture gallery. When I plug it into the car and start the car up, the Media Player option gives me access to music on the USB stick by the gearstick. If music is playing, full control is available through the Tomtom or steering wheel (as usual) and when a track changes and I do not have the music player screen showing, a message is flashed up on the Tomtom telling me the track name.

I have a '60' registered Evo.

Hope this helps.

Guess i'll need to find a way to assassinate my lame blue&me control unit :p

i guess this doesnt work with an ipod with the blue and me adapter as i have no access to media player on my tomtom b+m and a 60 plated evo

Well, Fiat got back to me about this yesterday.... Now that's an award winningly slow customer service, and they refereed me to my local dealership who i'm sure are now sick of seeing me.

Anyways, Friday, I've been asked to go in to talk with the master tech.

I had also "string not found" error, but it disappeared after I updated my TomTom. Works great now with Media Player!

yes, mine was working fine until the bluetooth connection stopped completely.

Spoke to the master tech, He say's hes never seen the Media Player option but i showed him the video etc...

He's going to look at it & try to find a manual on the tomtom while the cars in today for a replacement side strip (was coming away from bodywork, again.)

Unfortunately I don't think I ever read through the manual in the box only the one online, but the one online clearly says about media player functionality and doesn't seem to refer to any requirements other than an Evo/500.
