General Punto Evo 1.4 8v Problems

I can see im not the first to have prioblems, but has anyone suffered from the same as me;

• engine management light flashing up - iv had this twice, followed by a message on my dashboard saying "check engine", took it in both time, 1st time they said they couldnt find a fault, just to do with the stop/start.
• It flashed up for a second time so took it in, and they downloaded something for it, said it was an ignition problem.
• whenever i fill up, i dont seem to get more than 300 miles, which is starting to worry me abit as i was expecting much more, im getting 37.5 mpg, what mpg is everyone else getting?
• Also the stop/start seems to choose when it wants to work, il pull up at a junction, and the engine will stop, then even though im sitting there in neutral it'l just turn itself back on.

If a warning light comes on then the computer will log a fault so if they tell you they couldn't find one then they obviously haven't tried very hard.

I have the same Start/stop problems which i am hoping for a software update very soon as the system is completely useless the way it is now. My MPG ain't fantastic (34mpg in the snow) but i am expecting this to improve as i put more miles on. Allways the same on a brand new car.

my current MPG is 42.3 covered 6400miles
my start/stop turns the engine back on sometimes, all i can think of is it only does it when i have lights on so it may be due to the power drop.
it doesn't work if i have the rear window demister on aswell.

My old grande punto 1.4 8v returned about the same but the new multiair is better by quite a bit.

Also the start stop turns it back on if you have heating or lights on or stereo on relatively loud so it doesn't drain the battery too much. Completely normal

Ah that will be why me stop/start does that then, i usualy have my cd player and heating on at the same time.

The other thing, i seem to be getting alot of vibrations from the clutch when im driving, anyone else got the same with the 8v 1.4 version?

I have had check engine flash up a few times on mine, my dealer plugged it in and could find no faults.
It has started just cutting out now when the stop start is on, it starts up again after 5 mins then another 5 mins if i havent moved the car cuts out all together and i have to turn the key off and then back on and start it up completely not sure if this is normal or not?

I've got the same problems. Althought I still have to phone the garage. My car is 2.5 year old. I've got the same problem. Last night everything was fine. This morning engine light came on, says 'check engine' and also start&stop button stays on and I cannot switch it off. My car does 38.9mpg thought that was not bad. I bought this car 2 months ago from Parks dealer. Does anyone know if fiat warranty covers any engine faults?

not sure on warranty - is that the fiat extended 3rd year..??,

this is THE WORST time of year for a car's charging system + Battery,

try and get the battery tested - if it's LOW , or struggling - it may throw up various errors,

mines only getting 37.5mpg although im blaming that on the substandard service it had from the ford dealer i bought it from just oil and filter changed, my stop start comes back on when i have the blowers on lights on etc it comes back on when the battery is discharging when it reaches a certain level it restarts

the start/stop turns the engine back on by itself when stopped if the battery doesn't have enough charge to keep all the electrical systems in the car, e.g. climate control, radio, demister, going while you're still at a stop, it's completely normal and just keeps you from running out of battery. it also won't turn off to start with if you've just been in reverse, e.g. parking, or if the car has very recently just been turned on.

Ive just had to replace the battery on mine start stop not worked for ages and started to labour when starting... ........ I hope your sitting down when you cost one up......

although i went for the el700 (70ah) since the oem one is 63 and exide dont do that after market only 60 or 70...

Hi, i have a 2011 punto evo gp, 1.4 8v and the stop start will switch the engine back on if the car has been off for too long as to not wear the battery down too low. Also i got on average 36-37 MPG which is about normal as my friends Zetec S gets 35 mpg average.
