Havent been on here for a while.

Well I've already had a new headgasket at the 3000 mile Mark due to unknown reasons. However yesterday at 10000 miles. I was topping up the oil And I noticed gunk on the oil lid. My bf told me that this is a sign the head gasket is failing.

Seriously not again -_-'

Gunky oil filler is never the ONLY sign of a failing HG... This can also happen if the car is used for lots of short trips in cold weather when the engine never gets hot enough to burn off condensation.

Was the head skimmed last time it had a new gasket?

i agree - since the Rocker Cover is actually full of air when the engine is off
the Cold air will be sitting in there too
moisture in air + Oil = Little Spray of Mayo on oil cap

If your under warrenty the garage will be giving the once over
But it does leave to wonder if you've had a repaired gasket or a new with a skim?

ziggy

It was replaced from what my main dealer had told me. I'm not mechanically minded so I'm not sire what skimming it means lol :S

Invoice for the work should state the head was skimmed if it was, if it doesnt then assume it wasnt skimmed... Thats not good...

ONLY if the head was damaged as a result of the H/G failure. If the engine didn't overheat then the head will be fine.

What problems did you have that a replacement head gasket was done to fix?

 Lets be clear here... this is the SECOND gasket failure...

I call foobarred head not skimmed, always policy to do it... or accept you'll be forever changing the bl**dy gasket...

is it? All the evidence we have is a little emulsifiaction during an extremely cold winter. Which I'd consider potentially normal.

Maybe I forgot (see Post#2) :p

But the title threw me on my next viewing, missing a (?) or the words "is my" left out n all that... (y)
