Punto Evo oil change a problem?

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum. I recently bought a Punto Evo (Multiair 105hp). I was told by the dealer that in order to have an oil change I need to drive the car to them. When I asked why I can’t do it myself I was told that the engine has a “sensor” which measures the oil quantity. Ok, fine with that no problem. He then continued saying that the reason why this sensor is there is because whenever the oil is drained from the sump and refilled again with new oil the engine doesn’t run smoothly and valves make a noise. In order to cure this “problem” they use their diagnostic software to cancel this fault and so the engine after that continues to run smoothly without any strange noises.
Is this true? Does anyone know?

You don't want to keep up the service history on a new car?

Re: Punto Evo oil change a problem?

hahahahaha, does it have a dipstick? if so then it isnt controlled by a computer.

and if it was computer controlled you would have to have a level display on the dash and not just a low level warning light.

you can drain and refill the oil as often as you like aslong as its to manufacturer specification, only at service intervals would you need a dealer to do it. if you do change it yourself you will void the warranty if the oil is incorrect spec or you fill with too little or too much oil. other than that its quite hard to do it wrong.

the dealer is having you on.

on a 13k car having a oil level sensor which can change how a vehicle runs is bulllpoo.
as the vehicle will be switched off during the whole change over of oil it cant sense its been changed.

i know that 60k+ vehicles have no dipstick but do have a level indicator on the dash, like the fuel level, so you can see where it is between min and max, but this takes 5-10 minutes to update after each change.

Re: Punto Evo oil change a problem?

Thank you for your replies. I also had the idea from the beginning that the dealer was trying to scare me...However, I will let you know as soon as I do my first oil change (with Selenia 5W-40 oil of course).

Re: Punto Evo oil change a problem?

My dealer asked me to return the car to them for the first oil check/change at 1000 miles which I did. No charge though and I was happy to take it in for them to check.

MJT - it says in your signature that your eleganza was faulty. And your awaiting a gp. What happened?! And Howcome your getting a gp not an eleganza again, I guess you can't get an eleganza anymore because its discontinued

Re: Punto Evo oil change a problem?

My Eleganza was rejected back in September due to an engine fault. It has been sat in the dealer's compound ever since then. There's quite a long thread on here called 'Smokin' in the Evo forum where the problems I had were discussed.

I had to go for a GP as the Eleganza is now discontinued. I had to take a GP and 'up-spec' it with options to give me as close to an Eleganza as we could get. new car arrived at Avonmouth on the 11th and is hopefully being delivered to the dealer next Monday/Tuesday. I'll be missing the ambient lighting and climate control (happy with air con though) but that's about it, but I have gained tinted windows, body kit, front fogs, upgraded sound system etc.
