Im aware the Evo needs a specific oil & that standard oil can clog up the oil pump the Punto Evo uses as typically cars don't have an oil pump and cause the engine to seize (so Fiat told me.)

I've read the manual, I've looked around but im laying eggs unsure of which oil i should be buying.

So does anyone know what oil I can pick up off the shelve at halfords? or do i need the specific Selenia kpe (will add the number when i check manual again) assumingly directly from a Fiat Dealer at organ selling prices?

Is yours using a lot of oil?

In my situation I just got the recommended oil from the dealer - I've done 6000 miles now and it hasn't used a drop. I haven't even had to open the tin - it's just sitting there spare, which seems good value!.

(Unlike my Panda 100HP which seemed to drink the stuff - about 2 litres every 6 months I think it was).

I didn't think mine was, i've checked it on occasion but just checked it today & it seems pretty low (just below half on the stick), though i must say the stick is pretty difficult to read so ill try it again in the morning when the car is definitely cold

Was planning to get oil just to be on the safe side but now i'm thinking i better go shopping this week & get some.

Well I had an old 2L tin of Selenia K 5W-40, a red tin marked ACEA-C3 Pure Energy which I used for the Panda. There wasn't much left in it so I got another tin ordered specifically for my 1.4 MultiAir Punto Evo.

It's exactly the same tin as the old one - except FIAT have added the MultiAir logo on the front under 5W-40. Apart from that the part number on the tin matches my old one for the Panda - 14113707. All the approval numbers and codes for the different manufacturers are the same as on the old one as well.

I guess the important thing is to look for the ACEA C3 standard if you do get another brand - but personally I wouldn't risk it until you are out of the warranty period!

This bit doesn't make much sense TBH?

Using the right oil is important for correct operation of the MultiAir components (all the testing regarding viscosity, operating range, rate of degradation and machine tolerances are based on the Selenia K.P.E), and using the wrong spec oil can have an adverse affect. This was all stated in large, bold type in the data supplied to Tech's- which usually means it's something not to ignore, LOL.

Also, Fiat state that in the case of any faults relating to the MultiAir components, the Dealer will have to supply oil samples before the repair is authorised.

Click on: "The right oil for my car"
( They do have a recommendation for the Punto Evo Multiair....!!)

Selenia is good oil, but lot's of other brands are as good or better.
I prefer Castrol.

Ahh nice one, didn't realize there website had that function, useful!

Good point on warranty, I'd hope using Castrol wouldn't cancel warranty if the engine died assuming its the right spec oil, must admit if my oil is low i'm wary something could be cracking up mainly because i had the engine management light come on a couple of weeks ago. (Went in, But diagnostic said its fine.)

The Fiat dealer I use for servicing my MJet in Wakefield actually use Castrol oil not the recommended Selenia stuff. Be interesting if Fiat ever tried to dispute a warranty claim from someone when all the stamps and invoices are from a Fiat dealer.

i have just had to fill my oil up cars 3 months old and no oil!!!!!!! very concerned, i brought castrol magnitec at 5W-40 as specified for the 1.4 multiair as i refused to pay fiats 50 odd quid for 4 litres i payed 21 in the end, when i took oil filler cap off it had a brown yellow goo on it is that bad??

Well I've bought "Castrol Edge w5-40" (Note: NOT Turbo Diesel) for my 105 Multiair Punto Evo 16v, i had to goto Costco in the end, got 4L for £27.

Also the back of the container says "ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, C3" & "Meets Fiat 9.355535.S2" just incase anyone wants in-depth info to be absolutely sure in future.

Thanks for the help guys (y)

Edit:just incase people are wanting more info

i spoke to a dealer in birmingham who told me there is no problem with my car, when i rang the dealer i brought the car from, the knew about the problem and told me to bring it in and they would top it up and check everything is ok unfortunutally that would be a 300 mile round trip. but they did inform me that that is normal for the multiair engine and it will burn excessive amount of oil for the first year does this sound right??

they said in a year anywhere between 18000 and 24000 miles and expect to have an indication of no oil on the dipstick at least once a month

well fiat are in typical good form they contacted me last friday to say a specialist person would ring early this week and as yet not a peep from them
