The engine was warm it had been driven about 25 miles, the day before i did 100mile trip so the battery should of been fully charged, no reason for it to happen.

I hope it was a fluke & not the start of something cause if it makes a habit of that i'll be asking the dealer to set default to Off.
Yip, had that one before… not lately thankfully… could be worse though, I mean it’s not like it’s even remotely embarrassing!

yup, not only embarrassing to yourself for appearing to have stalled to other people but embarrassing when you've got anti-fiat people in the car who your trying to convert, then the car does something like that!

Did not go down well.

So if you switch it off (with a button i presume), does it come back on automatically each time you use the car? You can't just switch it off and it stay off until you decide otherwise?

Unfortunately it’s set to “on” by default, so even though you can switch it “off” via the button on the dash you need to remember and do that every time you start the engine.

Sounds easy enough… but its harder than you’d think!
Thanks JTD_Liam thanked for this post

Re: stop start fail:- what did I do wrong?

I have said goodbye to stop start...for now.

One wee experiment I tried.

Sitting in a traffic queue on a hill. Engine stopped, as expected.

Traffic started to move so I let the car roll forward without putting my foot on the clutch to engage the restart. Once the car got up above a slow walking pace the engine restarted.

Cheers

D

IMO the problem with stop/start (as we have seen before with DPF) is Fiats inability to train its dealership staff and providing the literature for the owner on the correct operation of the system, its advantages and it's limitations.

Why suggest such a ridicules idea!... Fiat should train their staff indeed… whatever next!
I suppose Fiats “Start Stop” is a bit like marmite… you either love it or hate it!

I listened to a salesman explain the S/S system to a customer yesterday when asked and I nearly laughed out aloud. The S/S is a selling point but its was no surprise a sell was never made in this instance.

Stop start is actually very good and very effective, with a little understanding the customer should be able to see the benefits of such a system after all you have paid for it so why not use it insteard of pressing the 'off' button.

I was going to post something about not having any issues with the Stop Start system while I had my Eleganza but thought I'd jinx myself for when my new GP turns up, so I'm keeping my gob shut.
