Well it poured down last night, and guess what NO LEAK!!!! HURRAH!!!

I loved my drive to work this morning, its good to have her back. Thanks for all your support guys, and if you are one of the unlucky ones like me, DON'T be fobbed off by your dealer. Insist on a repair, and make sure that the head Tech does it!

Fiat have agreed a compensation also, so will let you know what it is.
Nice one. Did Fiat say what the problem was with it. Would be nice if they could check all EVO's for this problem before they pass them on to there new owners. They are obviously great cars and some cars do have problems but these issues dont do anything to improve the bad name that Fiat still have for quality.

Re: My boot leaks

Will take some pics of the sealed seams. But the dealer did say the first repair was done according to Fiats technical bulletin. This did not work. So they removed the tailgate and sealed all of the seams, not just at key points as per the bulletin

Re: My boot leaks

My dealers are ordering 'bulb holders' for my leak

Got to wait for the parts to come in, then its back to the dealers to fit them and see if this fixes the leak

Sorry I just got really nosey and wondered if the Evo was faultless (or at least an improvement on the GP).

This sounds very similar to what my thoughts were on the GP tailgate....the welds are really poor. Had a massive collection of snow in mine the other day. The snow had got in the gap between the top of tailgate and roof and it was a mission to get it all out!! I did notice a water run mark down the back of my GP window yesterday so might have to re-seal mine again.

What a pity cos I was thinking about going for an Evo next year...but think I will give it a miss.

Re: My boot leaks

I had a Grande Punto for 3 years and a few months away from owning my EVO for a year. Every time it rains water leaks down from the bootlid. But it was never an issue it just ran down and onto the bumper. My EVO does it too. So I'm still a bit confused at the actual problem. Stupid I may sound. There are two little holes on the underside of the bootlid near the rubber springs that stop the bootlid slamming. I think it comes from them, which I assumed it was designed with them for this reason. It's never caused any problems for me at all. Unless what's happening for me is normal and your issues are something else that I can't understand lol

The reason there is a big gap between the bootlid and the roof is for cars fitted with a rear spoiler as the extra room is needed for the spoiler to tuck in.

Yeah I do realise that this is why there is a gap but I still think there could have been more done to seal it properly.

The water in tailgate has caused several issues for me i.e. tailgate lock needed replaced twice due to water ingress (1st time tailgate would not open, 2nd time the boot light wouldnt work and required new lock mechanism), last winter a lump of ice was stuck inside my tailgate due to water ingress freezing. I think it can depend on how often people use the tailgate....I personally tend to check it as often as possible because my warranty is due to expire next year, however, since sealing it I have not had any issues with my lock.

I do think that Fiat should have done the decent thing and recalled...sounds like its gonna be an issue on the Evo???

I use the boot everyday. Open it twice a day guaranteed. I never had any of those problems with my old grande, maybe I was just lucky

Re: My boot leaks

Another thing that might be a reason for some cars having problems and some not is depending on what country it is built in. The Eleganza and Sport models of the EVO are made in Turin Italy and the rest of the models are made in Poland. I also believe this is the case for the grande punto. A magazine article and my bf confirmed this.

And I never had a problem in either car so far

Re: My boot leaks

I keep a close eye on the boot & water etc, but so far its bone dry.

I had some water pour onto parcel shelve once when i opened the boot, but i think that was down to me using a hosepipe & cleaning the car etc must of pushed water into places it normally wouldn't go - and it hasn't happened since.

So i'm satisfied

I would agree with that totally but I still don't believe that the water should drain through the tailgate itself.
The thing that I have to question is how well protected the tailgate metal work is internally from the constant run of water....could lead to rusting internally over a long period of time???

I wouldn't mind getting a look at the tailgate build to compare it to the Grande Punto tailgate build.....would put my mind at rest LOL!!!

Have you had any problems with your Evo at all so far???

Don't mind taking some photos of the boot from different angles for you if you want. I see what you mean about internal rust, however you have to remember car doors also have a design where water drains through the actual doors themselves, and out of little holes on the underside of them. This is normal on all cars and the boot is just another door!

On my bfs old cavalier he had little holes where the sunroof is, so water that got stuck in-between the glass and the roofs metal could drain through the holes, along pipes under the headlining, down the D pillar and out under the car.

I had to have the headgasket replaced after 2k miles due to the new multiairs design and it's a brand new engine
