can anyone point me in the right direction for getting a "whiter" light etc and also brighter.

any help would be greatly appreciated, costs not a problem more just quality is what im after.

thanks

tom

For DRLs we all seem to have gone for MTEC Superwhite which I'll add a photo to show the results! Main/Dipped beam I went for Phillips X-Treme Power which are very powerful but not as White as I had hoped. I believe Osram Nightbreakers are your best bet Which a few members have, While your replacing the it's worth doing them all! I ordered the following:-

Main/Dipped = Phillips X-Treme Power H4
DRLs = MTEC Superwhite 380W T20
Sidelights = MTEC Superwhite W5W
Indicators = Phillips Chromed Bulbs PY21W

** After decription is the bulb/lamp fitting **

As I say await feedback on mains I highly recommend the X-Treme power they are incredibly powerful, the beam is alot whiter than the standard bulbs but more performance than style. But as for DRLs, Sidelights and Indicators the above are certainly the ones to go for.
Powerbulbs is a good place for the Main, Sides and Indicators. MTEC are found on Ebay

DRLS and Chromed Indicators Fitted

Attached the DRLs on a night and the Main/Dipped Beam from X-Treme power, As you can see the DRLs do give a tint of blue (infact the bulbs themselves are blue, But are different from the MTEC Cosmos Blue) Hard to get a good photo of the lights!!

Hope this helps

Excellent thread!

I have ordered the MTEC sides & DRLs from eBay but have no idea about mains. I want the colour to match. Which ones do you think?

I feel a dick for asking this but I want to do the fogs. Allthough I don't agree with White fogs (not practical!) I like using them as cornering lights and therefore don't want a random yellow light appearing.

Any suggestions for those??

Cheers,
Craig

I'm not Sure with the fogs as I have left mine standard they are quite hard to change too, As far as I'm aware MrBoney is the only one to change them and it required some of the bumper to come off!
As for mains depends what your after? Performance wise I. E (more light on road) the most powerful road legal are the Ring Xenon Max bulbs which if you CLICK HERE Will take you to MrBoneys car in members motors you can see the amount of light they emit! Followed by X-Treme power which I have.

For style I.E clean crisp White beams you have also MTEC range of main Super White, Cosmos blue etc I personally went for the X-Treme for the extra light through upcoming winter and will look at other beams next year around spring.
The mains fitting is H4 (regardless which brand/style you go for the fitting is the same)
As a crossover bulb the Osram Nightbreaker gives a mixture of performance and style, As does the X-Treme power but more towards performance.

I installed my new MTEC sidelights yesterday as the original ones i ordered were still Yellow, As you may be able to tell the bulbs themselves (MTECs) for sides and DRLs are blue but omit a white light. The sidelight are small and quite hard to see, So ive highlighted them.
Love the colour of the DRLs!!! :)

Hi All,

I am considering upgrading my GP's bulbs.

think someone already brought it up but when you get a few different makes/styles of bulbs, dont they look a bit mix and match when they're all one?

Also if you do the whole lot it must cost a few quid?

ow has anyone seen the black indicator covers for the sides, they look mint!

Well the photos above show my mixture of Phillips with MTEC which look fine, Obviously getting Blue sidelights and DRLs with White mains will show the comparison but it's all personal taste and style vs performance.
I prefer performance but also White beam compared to blue. As for price not really... I did all excluding fogs for a £30 ish? I'll double check that

If its style that your after keep it all MTEC.
Headlights: MTEC H4 60/55w Super White (best colour but poorer performance)
DRL’s: MTEC Super white 380W T20
Sidelights: MTEC Super white W5W.
Indicators: as “Ironhorse” has said.
It should all then match up!
I personally have always stuck to Osram Night breakers for the headlights as they give excellent performance, which I need!… plus you can get them fairly cheap off eBay(y). If money is no object then the best headlight bulbs you can go for is PIAA… although you’d be paying £45-£65 even off eBay.
As “Ironhorse” has said already only “MrBoney” (to my knowledge) has changed the fogs… and from what I can remember it was not as easy job!:(

Damn somebody else has thought of that to!... That was my next upcoming mod along with an armrest! Only b*gger with them is that to get decent ones they seem to come from Germany… so may take a while to arrive.:(

Hey Guys,

Cheers for all the replies about my questions. I've just recieved my MTEC sides and DRLs.

Thinking MTEC mains due to colour. Anyone know a more practical one with little compromise on colour?
Also want the fog to be the same colour but only saw the super bright one in the thread!! No more suggestions?

Cheers again!

Afraid I cant recommend any fogs :( Be one of the guinea pigs and give it a go! :) A few things I keep meaning to mention is the Punto or at least mine had Osram bulbs did anyone elses?
The other main things Ive been meaning to mention when changing to mains the handbook is only "ok" at helping understand the location and removal!
I found at im sure other with the turbo changing the left bulb an absolute nightmare i have rather large hands and the gap allowed me access but no option to maneuver :(
The main missing information is there is a spring loaded clamp that locks at the top, This needs to be lifted upward slightly and un clipped this will then drop down remove the connection and THEN follow the handbook

Just catching up with AutoExpress and they are doing the bulbs test, And the Osram NightBreaker Plus came top in the 100% white test, Very surprised with the Ring XenonMax and X-Treme power results!!

Think I`ll be ordering some NightBreakers!!
(Heres the scans, Hope this isnt breaking any rules?)

When people say 'style' with regards to bulbs, do you mean the whiteness? Because I just want as white as possible lights (not yellow) so would that be more style or performance ??

Be grateful if anyone can help the newbie haha..

"Style" = Ice white or blue(ish).
"Preformance" = [FONT=&quot]Pure Power (light emitted)

Wish i had gone with NightBreakers fromm the start as my winter bulbs, Emitted light is fantastic.
Seems to be a more white light compared to X-Treme Power

Are they legal?
I'm looking for sidelights and full beam lights that are powerful, blue and LEGAL. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
