General 1.4 8v noisey?

:) Agreed, i replaced my 100 HP with a 1.4 8 Valve Evo GP, take it over 4000 rpm and it sounds like a bag of spanners.

I work in a prestige dealer, so not used to listening to new engines sounding so bad.
i asked fiat and they said its normal. very tappety, but for economy you lose refinement, its hard to get them hand in hand for a cheap price.

im not too bothered, just thought id best check!

Anyone else with the 1.4 8v notice the engine is really noisey for a new car?

:D Haha you should try the 1.3 diesel. Apart from the obvious diesel noise I get a lovely rattle when the turbo spools up through 2000rpm! That tends to mask any 'nice' engine sounds like the turbo whistle!
I guess you can hope, like me, that it will all quieten down after 3-4000 miles???

Actually, thinking seriously for a mo - does the 1.4 come with sound proofing under the bonnet or an engine cover with sound proofing underneath? You might be able to do something there, just a thought?

I can hear the tappets at the top end when im outside the car but its more than quiet enough inside.

The exhaust note is quite nice as well, although I'm reluctant to give it any serious beans until its run in a bit.

mines done over 1k now so gets hammered.

plus they are bench tested and dont need running in. hasnt lost a drop of oil nor coolant so all is reet.

Nice to know they are already 'run in' so to speak. Still i'll be cautious for the first thousand anwyay! (y)

warranty.... aslong as you keep the vehicle levels checked and dont have user error, like hitting the limiter for 25minutes, its fine.

the limiters are in place for a reason, these engines should be able to safely hit 7/8k revs befor ebeding things hence the lowered rev limit.
