General Dealer offer what do you think?

Well the latest saga. The salesman has "left the company" so no wonder he hasn't been returning my calls :bang:. I went in yesterday to see him and was met by one of the directors from Glasgow who told me. She is looking into it all now and, give her her due, has kept me up to date with what is happening.

She keeps trying to get me to have the car resprayed but I flat out refuse to do that. The are not going with the car with the leather seats so the only other option, other than to cancel the whole thing, is for them to order me a new car. Obviously though this will take months.

The whole thing has been a nightmare to be honest. I called Parks in EK and they can't match the deal either. I dunno how I have managed to get such a good deal that noone else can match it. Being aware of this is why I am reluctant to cancel the deal as I don't think I will get it again.

I love how quickly salesmen leave the company, always makes me laugh how oldschool car dealers are. No 'months notice' etc!

Anyway, been following this thread with interest. I was thrilled when you said they'd offered the better equipped Sporting, but now it's all gone pear shaped :(

If i were you i'd phone Fiat UK (00800 3428 0000) & explain it all to them. See if they can come up with something with the dealer to get you in the higher specced Sporting.

I don't think under any circumstance you should accept getting the other one resprayed - for a new car that's just not on & if Fiat or the dealer loses money on that then so be it, they should be more careful with their cars. This sorta damage keeps getting reported in the 500 section aswell so it seems they just fling cars around like toys.

Also, i wouldnt accept waiting ages for a new order. Youve waited already.

So, either the higher specced Sporting or another Sporting within 5 days. No repairs. No new order. And don't budge, i'm sure youre well within your rights.

Good Luck (y)

Well spoke to trading standards and they seem to be of the opinion that the dealer is doing everything right. There is nothing in law to say I should get the higher spec car and they are offering to repair (no chance) or order a new car. The fact that it will probably take months to get a new car is irrelevant.

Might give fiat another call to see what they can do.

I agree, Shouldn't be getting a "New" car resprayed before you've even collected it.

Not only is that ****, but you don't know how good the respray job will be & weather they have ovens etc... if they don't use ovens then the paint fades prematurely, i've been told that's why some cars have 1 faded panel compared to the rest of the car etc.

Which reminds me, i need to contact my dealership & ask if the bodyshop they used for mine (had a minor paint defect, required respray on the door.) used ovens or not.

What is the exact spec of the car that has been damaged? I'll find out exactly how long long it would take to get an identical replacement.

Well the one I was meant to get was the Sporting in Crossover Black with the Style pack. However if I am going to order a new one, which is looks like I am, then I am going to choose it as follows.

Exotica Red
Style Pack
17" two tone Alloy Wheels
Body Coloured Side Strips
and perhaps the visibility pack.

because the deal fell through I cant see how you think the dealer or Fiat or trading standards can help in getting you a better car than you originally wanted.

To me it sounds as if the dealer is desperate to get rid of a damaged car, did you actually see the car before it was damaged?

Also (and i'm not saying this dealer is doing this) but its a known trick to offer such a good deal that makes everyone elses dealer look poor, this gets you into the showroom where the excuses start to come out. Normally this is in the form of a excellent trade in deal but after travelling 50-100 miles the trade in value drops to less than half! Unfortunally most people have changed insurance and cant be bothered arranging insurance to get back home plus they have told everyone about their new car so just agree and sign the dotted line.

I still cant believe that the 2 biggest motor groups in Scotland (one the biggest in Europe) cannot match this offer especially in todays climate. To me this would of set alarm bells ringing straight away!!!

Good luck anyway in getting in sorted(y)

Well I saw and test drove the car before I purchased it and it was not damaged then so I don't think its like that. Also I have signed the finance agreement on the deal so the trade in amount/cost is accepted. The dealer is only 20 mins drive away so not really that far.

I was very surprised as well that both Arnold Clark and Parks couldn't match the deal from Bickets but they couldn't not sure why though.

There is an Exotica Red with Style Pack due to land in the UK in the next 2 weeks, otherwise you will be looking at a Week 23 (week-commencing 31 May) build so a UK ETA of around 14 June plus another week to ten days before it would arrive at the dealership.

Basically, you could have most of what you want in about 3-4 weeks, or exactly what you want in about 6-7 weeks.

Thanks for that info. So the one coming in soon only has the style pack and not the wheels or side strips?

Well ordered a new Punto today. Getting it as follows:

Exotica Red
Style Pack
17" two tone Alloy Wheels
Body Coloured Side Strips
visibility pack

should be with me in 7 - 8 weeks. they are guaranteeing the trade in offered for mine at the moment which is £6000 £1000 above book and also the same deal. I will have made at least another 2 payments to my existing finance so there will be less to clear off so that should help to lower the payments on the new one as well. I am hoping they are going to absorb some, if not all, the extra cost of the add ons as compensation for all the hastle. See what happens.

Pain to have to wait after getting to close, but atleast it'll be exactly what you want and Exotica Red looks awesome on the Sporting.... also the electrochromatic rear view mirror is really cool, feels more 2010, so 1990's having to flick the mirror down ;)

Not to mention, it'll be nice to get some colours other than black & white on the forum. I'd of gone red but my last car was red, my black has red in it :p closest i could get lol
