But, I think S&S should be defaulted to "Off" when the car starts, then turned on if you want it.

I just throttled the crap out of the car (2nd time now) and wheel span at traffic lights (first time!) with traffic infront to the extent they all pulled the fook over so i could go past (at which point i thought i should make it look good & shot by )

This was down to me pulling away at traffic lights with S&S, the engine started & stalled for a moment, i was pressing accelerator not moving, so pressed it abit harder, S&S then kicked the engine back on.... REVS! SQUEALS! - all in the space of a second maybe 2.

S&S&S, Start & Stall & Start Again.

Has anyone else had this experience with S&S yet, or is it just me?

Hi new to all this. I've had my sporting for 2 weeks now s&s is a nightmare. Its OK when you are in a traffic jam but at traffic lights i think its going to take a while to get used to.

Apart from that had no other problems with my new car, love it :)

Yeah ive found it to be ok at traffic jams or in the queue at lights.... just when at the front of the lights ive found its response time is pretty crappy, todays episode was when i was behind 2 people though, scared them ****less lol... if only a police car was behind me, how would i explain that :p

I think it's a good idea. I use mine a lot when stuck in traffic jams. When I stop at the traffic lights, I will only let S&S come on if I'm further down the queue so I've got plenty of time to get the engine started again (and sort it out if it doesn't start). It's all about anticipation and I find myself pushing the clutch down to start the engine a few seconds before the lights change from red.

i have found also that you dont need to brake at all for it to cut in (or off) , rolling below 5mph it cuts off then again restarts if you roll back above 5mph again,,

Seems to work ok, just sometimes as im parking up it cuts off just as im about to go into reverse,, a bit off a pain,, hopefully the starter motor or solonoid are up to the job,, dont plan keeping this one more than the 3 years i think anyway,,

Hahaha... Im glad its not just me then. I dont mind it cutting out tbh, its just weird that when clutch 'biting' points seems to be different when the car restarts (Does that make sense?)

Countless times I have been wheelspinning at lights and out of the work's carpark :p

Exactly what my deal is, bite point seems to change when the engines just started & end up pushing accelerator down more so you dont stall, and clutch up, then suddenly bang your off! :slayer:

Also hill holder, i like it but i've had a couple of arguments with that too, though ive not had any real embaressment yet... just kinda delays getting the bite point right/revs too high etc.

Can't say I love it, seems a little odd to me. But several times the Evo has flashed up a message "Start/Stop is unavailable" and later on it's worked again. Odd.

But does it really take the Turbo cooling into account when it stops ? Just a little worried for the long term effect to the car.

As for the hill holder, have that on the Panda too and it seems to work fine for me on both cars.

Yeah start/stop unavailable is strange, i know it does it when its using power and decides S&S isnt a good idea... but also it comes up some times when it doesnt seem to be doing anything, which is confusing!

Not sure about turbo cooling etc, i think the whole long-term effect is a question alot of people have (myself included)... yeah its been tested etc but i really cant believe turning the engine on & off in rapid succession is good for the car.

Also dont work after you reverse,, i've had it restart after a few mins of sitting with some electrics on,,

Actually, yes, reversing may be a factor for it saying "unavailable". It usually only does it to me when I stop on my drive and reverse to turn around in the court yard.

When I took the Sporting for a test drive the other week I drove about 10 miles however the start stop never seemed to work when I stopped. I tried it a few times. Any ideas why that would be? The salesman said it may be because the car hadn't been PDI'd yet but not sure.

Quite probably.

When I went to the dealer here in February to test drive an Evo, I took it out but could not make it happen. No matter what the Start&Stop did not work.

When I finally drove back and talked to the dealer he told me it had not been activated yet.

Shame as I wanted to test that feature before ordering.

Well its such a dramatic feature that you would want to try it out before buying. I know you can turn it off but if you do does it stay off or does it reset every time you turn off the engine?

resets (n) cant find anyway of turning it off permanently, i gather you can tell a dealer to disable it.

Though, ive found i just dont let the clutch up anymore unless i know im stopped for awhile.

I've also found out the "unavailable" message seems to certainly pop up if you stop (with clutch in), then reverse and stop again. Happens to me when I park.

I talked to my dealer today about it, no way to keep it off via the settings and I got the feeling he didn't want to turn it off.

Also, when the driver removes their seatbelt whilst still driving, the "unavailable" message appears.

Yup i've noticed that too, and also i believe if a door is open.

I've occasionally popped into my mums with the engine still running (friends in the car) to grab mail & run out again to find the engine never stopped.

It doesn't work if

a. You switched it off :p
b. The engine isn't running at its standard optimal temperature (wont work first thing on a morning usually until you warm it up)
c.After you have just reversed.

If you have a problem with it not working, and the engine management light it on, take it to a dealer... They just need to reset something to do with the gears. (I had this problem if you didnt already guess)

Just plugged the USB in and got new data for the past month and a half...

Overall my eco index registers at 64 average (since owning the car mid March)

The past week has seen nearly every day with an eco rating of 70-72 which I was highly surprised at. Maybe I've realised how much money I spend on petrol ;)
