If I knew the name of the process I'm trying to do I'd of searched for it...so here goes anyway!

I have some AVI/DIVX videos which I'd like to put onto a single DVD and was wondering if theres such a thing to make a sort of menu screen where I can select which video I want to watch on the disc?
If so can someone recommend me one?

I couldn't be sure if nero had the function or not.

Doesnt have to have a picture preview of each of the vids but if the menu can have a background instead of a plain screen that would be a nice touch :)

Anyone?

if they are divx/xvid then you will have a list of the files.
why do you want a front end?

im guessing this is what you mean?

just seems work for no real gain for me

Well my new cinema system says it reads divX so thought instead of playing them off my xbox HDD why not make a hardcopy. if I just burn them to a dvd and bung it in should it just display a list of whats on the disk and then be able to select what you want to play?

Well, I do a few XviD DVDs for my housemate, and she plays them on a DivX recorder - as soon as the DVD goes in, a menu comes up of all that is on the disc, no need to do anything further.

i assume the xbox is networked then?
why not just stream off the PC then?

1st thing is to go into folder options in XP.
then turn off simple file sharing.

on the xp account you use as the main admin account there must be a logon password.this allows the xbox to log in.

  • now to test just pick a folder on the PC to share so you can get it all set up as it sometimes takes a bit of tweaking.
  • so right click on the folder and select 'sharing & security'
  • select 'share this folder'
  • apply
  • then select the security tab
  • tick replace permission entries on child objects
  • apply
  • yes to the box that comes up
  • it will apply this to the files in the folder
  • (this stage isnt always needed but i do it anyway)
  • click OK
  • than click on permissions
  • this should be 'everyone'

thats the PC side done

go to XBMC

  • go into the settings section
  • network
  • SMB client
  • set the username & password to the XP account name and password.
  • set the workgroup name to the pc workgroup name.
  • by default in XP it is workgroup
  • winserver IP is the pc IP
  • apply all of those and it will ask ou to reboot
once the xbox is rebooted

  • go into myvideos
  • then workgroup(SMB) network
  • you should then see the (*)workgroup name
  • click on that
  • you should then see your pc's name
  • click on that and you will see any shared files on the PC

if you dont see the workgroup @ *stage then reboot the PC and try again
if it still doesnt work then try disabling the firewall to test
