My Stilo has been flashing at me that it wants a service now...and what the car need the car gets. But I ain't going to a Fiat dealership as they wish to part me of £300.
I read in another thread that Fiat Dealerships will reset the service alert when they service the car, ....will they do this for free if you get the car serviced elsewhere? Are they obliged to do it also?? (if you sell the car it will flash that a service is due when it is not, and as Fiat are the only ones who can reset it, aren't they obliged to reset it for you so this does not happen?)

£300 [:0]

That's what my little Uno is worth! lol

I am a schizophrenic currently so please bear with me whilst I try to get rid of the 40+ personality.

I thought there was some legislation that went through recently saying you don't need to get car serviced at a main authorised dealer to keep warranty intact, which is good!!! But think they still have to use Fiat parts.

Not sure where I read that, could be in Which. Will check it out!

But personally, I will stick to main dealers in a new car, only because of the diagnostic equipment they have specific to the car.

Do people really take a full dealer service history into consideration when buying a car? Especially if it's just a run-of-the-mill Ford, Toyota, Vauxhaul or Fiat? I can't see it adding much value to my 1.2L Stilo?
Thoughts anyone?...

Miles.

Ps. Thanks for the responses :)

for people who don't know fiat dealers + traders a full main dealer service history would encourage them to buy. but personaly it would put me off i would go for one regualy serviced by the same independant.

I'd contact Fiat if i were you, apparently the Stilo is supposed to have fixed price servicing, so dealers can't rip you off!

Problem is no one on this site seems to have had a service, or they ain't saying what their fixed price service cost! :p

53 plate, Stilo 3-door, Sassy grey, Alloys to follow, 1.2 Active, 5-Disc CD-Changer -- 45mpg!

fixed price don't mean they wont forget to check things or say things are broke that aint broke, a favorite one with all makes of main dealer, not just fiat, seems to be telling people that they need new brakes and disks when they don't.

Milesonneill: Which service does your Stilo need? I have just had the 2nd service, (24k) and it cost me £205.00, but I rang another dealer and they wanted £225.00, so its worth shopping around, don't know how much the 3rd (36k)service will be, its never normally cheap, anybody had any ideas on a price?

yes mine is booked for its 24k and the fixed service cost is £165 including labour. (i live in NI) However, i still think this is a rip off.

Mines is due in two weeks 2nd service £175.

You don't have to have the car serviced at a dealer as long as the garage is VAT registered and used parts of similar quality to the Fiat parts.

As to the dealer resetting the service indicator, they are not obliged to do so. They will probably do it but charge a fee. I'd also be surprised if many garages had the specialist tool to do it yet. My car was bought from a peugeot dealer (who has a Fiat franchise within their group) but they didn't do it (or probably didn't know how to do it) before they put the car out to me on sale. Rather annoying it is to! [xx(]

Well it looks as if I have been ripped off then, good job I complained that much that they dropped the price from £205 to £150, but that probably means I got half the job. So nobody knows how much the 3rd service is then? I want to fit some new brake pads, do I have to buy Fiat ones?

if your car has the break wear indicator you can fit the Fiat ones to keep this functionality. Or alternatively http://www.eurocarparts.co.uk/ are doing mintex pads with wear indicators on them for a lot cheap than Fiat OEM pads.

But if a wear indicator doesn't matter to you fit any old set and just join the wire together on hte indicator component to stop the light coming on the dash.

The service cost vary from model to model especially perol/diesels.
Before I bought my car I checked out what the cost would be and was quoted the following:
12 £150
24 £190
36 £315
48 £245
60 £148
72 £570

These costs are for an Abarth, and I believe the service at 72 is hefty because the cam belt is changed.

The service reset is done by accessing the body computer with the fiat examiner via EOBD there is no service reset tool which will do it. Maybe snap-on's scanner may perform this but it has to be able to read/write data. I'm interested to know whether anyone has had unusual tyre wear on the front? If low enough mileage fiat will replace them typical 12k Known fault with all stilo's.
