I'm going to do my head gasket on my fiat punto next week, as i need to change oil due to mayo in oil can anyone tell me if I need to clean the sump after I drain it if so can anyone tell me if it can be done without taking it off. I sort of know how to take it off but I'd rather not have to it's just more work and I'm new to the mechanic stuff.

Could you either use an engine flush or pour a bottle of cheapish oil through the engine a few times?

lol it's like the blind leading the blind! I am going to flush the engine I've read how to do this in the haynes manual this seems pretty straight forward, it's just that I'd imagine there would be a lot of gooey stuff in the sump which would be hard to remove??? I'm not quite sure myself thanks for the reply anyway!

flush with a petrol/oil mix (i think that's what dave reccomends) should lift any gunge. Then flush with oil to remove the petrol/oil mix.
