[^] having just shelled out for a new transmission, clutch, coil pack, brake pads, and countless other bits n bobs for my brava since november, i'm understandably falling out of love with my Brava, fair enough the mileage's high, but it seems likely that there's more heartache on the way!
So the decision has been made, Elmo has to go!
this week has mostly been devoted to getting the car into a slightly more saleable shape, 2 new tyres, and various autoglym products, and bits from Fiat and scraqpyards.
The plastic bit on the boot interior was first on my list. this was cracked and broken in many places, due to an admittedly hard life of being whacked by rip saws and big heavy boxes. went to scrapyard to get a replacement one and a new contact for the rear wiper and brake light as this had melted for some reason... there were about 30 possible donors in the yard, 25 of which had the part i wanted. 23 of the plastic cill plates weren't still intact, and only one was presentable, seems the boot interior turns blue when scratched! I was also looking for the plastic boot trim for behind the rear lights as these were badly scratched, couldn't get any better than mine!
Anyway, for anyone out there with this problem, you can get special paint for bumpers and plastic trim, and this really transforms the plastic, you might want to sand off major scrapes. I didn't prime mine, maybe i should have.
next on the list was badges, mine were looking pretty tired so i got new ones all round, and swapped the front badge for the new circular type, looks original too. swapped the rear Fiat badge for punto type with four seperate segments. looks better, but you'd have to be a real nerd to notice!
Had to get those plastic bits to the front of the rear wheels replaced, they're little plastic trim bits that don't seem to do anything, these can easily get damaged if a garage incorrectly jacks your car up. gonna get these sprayed to match the body colour.
blew 5 years of dust from the interior with compressor, under the seats and carpet, and "son of a gun"ned the interior. car looks so much better now, kinda don't wanna sell it anymore.
Should i tell prospective buyers about the new transmission, or should i say nothing, i think it's a selling point, one less thing to worry about.
would anyone be wary of buying a car that just had a new clutch and box? the car will be 100% in about a week or two, is it worth the hassle of getting everything perfect or am i just wasting my time trying to get decent money for a Fiat? [V]
