Can anyone help. I got a sei sporting 2001 model and I got a problem with fourth gear. Whenever I change from 5th to 4th as I let the clutch up I hear a squeal from the gearbox/clutch area. I dont think the noise is in any other gear but I dunno what it can be.

The squeal sounds to me like a dry clutch thrust bearing. I had a rover 600 before my Multipla and the thrust bearing squealed on occasions for about 25,000mls and still squealed when I traided it in.

Hi,
Does the clutch cable still need manual adjusting on these cars, it could be causing a slight selection problem on that gear if not correctly adjusted.. :)

Also would the gearbox being low on oil also cause a noise, because 5 th gear is high up on the end of the box and would get the least oil..

Thanks
Paul T

If the box was low on oil there would be a constant whinning noise when driving, i know this because my Cinq hasnt got any oil in the box as the seal has gone and the car whines in all gears
