Hi, just wanted some info on 850 sport coupe timing chain.
I recently purchased a nos timing chain and gear set. (903cc double row)
I’ve noticed that the chain doesn’t have the stretchers (duckbills) and that the crank gear didn’t have a rubber ring around the middle. I’ve since managed to buy some rubber rings but they are 2 different designs.
Any advice or info would be great.
Cheers, Ernie

Be carefully Ernie.

As the 903 one from a panda/uno will have a different thickness crankshaft gear. Due to it having a different oil system.

Thanks Tim. I measured them as soon as I read your reply and they’re the same thankfully. I’m still curious about the stretchers but the chain design is different on the new one.

Great pictures of the chains. I don't think it matters much which one to use. The important thing is that there is no play in the chain and everything is new. Don't put in a new chain on old sprockets. If you choose the stretcher chain keep more of an eye on the alloy timing cover so the timing chain doesn't eat thru it. I think the duckbill chains cause more damage than plain rollers. Of course damage occurs as the chain gets looser.

I'm currently changing my timing chain and have been doing research on roller timing chains since mine didn't last very long.
I found the duckbills | stretchers prevent half of the links from bending one way. Overall I would consider the stretchers a waste on our cars. Most of the time they dig into the chain cover and damage it and they are added weight to spin around.
I've heard the 'official' name of the little duckbills is stretchers BUT they are really stiffeners.
