Hi all and thanks for letting me join ?
Sorry to join and post for help straight away but needs must.We own a fiat ducato based Motorhome. We have read a lot about the airbag ECU since our light came on ? Long story short we sent ECU to Crash data who told us it was un reapairable so we needed a new one. After waiting 7 weeks ( on back order) we got a new one and sent it off to CD for coding, fitted it and still got airbag light on ? CD said they needed a code so paid for data code reading and it comes up with U1700 NBC, which means nothing to CD ? Can anyone offer advice please ? Been onto main dealers and they say CD cannot re code off vehicle which we know is not right because we know of over 30 people who have had it done by CD ....any help please ?

When fitting a new SRS unit, it has to be "coded" to the vehicle by running a proxi-alignment. This allows the van to discover the new module, re-write the master configuration file in the BCM and distribute it to the slave nodes on the vehicle.

Crash-Data use equipment to clone a new or replacement SRS ECU by copying the information from the old unit that was fitted to your van into the new unit, so that when the new unit is fitted, as far as the vehicle is concerned it is the same unit that was removed, and no "coding" is necessary.

Fiat dealers don't have the specialist equipment necessary to do that. If a unit is faulty they replace it and program it into the vehicle in line with Fiat instructions.

There are two U1700 fault codes that I can see relative to the SRS system. The fault codes should have an additional two digits after those first five characters, so either the diagnostic equipment used to retrieve the codes isn't fully compatible or you haven't been given the full code.

U1700-86 means implausible data received from BCM
U1700-87 means no communication with BCM

First option would be to clear the fault and see if it returns, as it may be related to the initial SRS ECU failure. Otherwise if you know someone with, or have access to MultiEcuScan or AlfaOBD, try a proxi-alignment with the new SRS ECU fitted.
