Hi,

Iam looking for some cheap diagnostics for home use, currently I want to read all modules on Punto 2 2005 (my old cheap ELM327 works only with engine/ABS),

any suggestions / experience,

what do you think of cheap "DELPHI" diagnostic sockets over aliexpress??... Is that any legal/safe?

If you already have the MES and adapter cables, all you need is KKL/VagCom interface.

It looks like the only module you can't access is the airbag am I right?
If so, it would be more expensive to go buy one of those Delphi clones rather than buying KKL/VagCom along with adapters if you're only planing to use it on Fiat cars...

Also I just looked up those Delphi's on AliExpress and they seem to ship with a keygen so their software is pirated...
 
Thanks. I have cheap ELM327 adaptor with shortened Pin 7, I can access engine+ABS, but nothing else. MES says electric delphi servo can be accessed only by ELM, is KKL/Vagcom any compatible?

Ive been searching a bit about those cheap Delphi interfaces, afaik its 1to1 copy of genuine Delphi interface with "fixed" genuine software, means illegal, you are fine with it anyway until you dont connect to internet and for cars manufactured till some 2015-17, new software (2017+) is much better protected. Delphi is charging approx. 2000 for interface and 600 annualy for updates so nothing special they are fighting it seriously ;-).
 
If you have MES, you just need a set of the adaptor cables to use with your ELM.

I have a KKL/Vagcom interface, have never managed to get it to work with MES on my Panda, or any of three other Fiats I've tried it on. It does not connect to my Fabia either, using any one of three cheap OBD programs (and that's a VAG vehicle), but the ELM works on it with all three programs.

I have managed to get the KKL to work on a Peugeot 307. (Although I'd prefer not to be anywhere near the Peugeot.)
 
I switch to OBDLINK SX interface a few years ago. Was helping Yani (MES developer) with 500X Proxi errors. The 500X was sending data back faster than ELM could handle and overrunning the ELM receive buffer.

We got it going with OBDLINK straight away and then with ELM. With ELM Yani had to switch the ELM into a little used FAST mode for Proxi. Not all ELM devices are capable of being switch to this fast mode and certainly not the Chinese clones.

ALSO NOTE! You should only get your Genuine ELM interface from an MES authorised distributor as these WILL work. Cheaper Ebay/others may work bat are just not worth the hassle.

I've seen the OBDlink interface, perhaps you can answer a question. Does this then do away with the need for the adaptor cables, or does it still need them? Thanks.

No you still need that adapter cables.

Our 2005 Barchetta needs a KKL for the airbag on the OBBDII 16 pin dianostic connector as ELM does not work. Last time I had to reset the squib errors (common problem) I forgot to try the OBDLINK interface. Must try and remember to try this next time.

No I would not either. If you have a working ELM device and no issues then OBDLINK is not really required.

For new comers to MES/other diag software they see ELM and look for the cheapest interface they can find assuming if it is an ELM device it is OK. Sadly this is so far from the real truth with these cheap clones.

I've not yet seen any issues with OBDLINK interfaces BUT they are also more expensive.

Like I said Yani solved the Proxi issues with known good ELM devices when used with certain later Fiat models so using a known good ELM device is not an issue anybody should be concerned with.

When you purchase OBDLINK you also get their software so the ELM only to OBDLINK + Software price differences may be to some peoples liking.

So you modified your interface to access the ABS module without any adapters?
If thats the case you should revert back to original as it could be interfering with other modules on that bridged K-Line...

You should be able to connect all modules except Airbag and ABS using unmodified ELM327 and no adapters at all. If you can't, you most likely have a bad ELM327 or an unnecessary termination resistor on the CAN lines (pin 6 and 14).

Already removed that "modification" and still no change - can not access Electric steering (Delphi) or Airbags.
Can you please give me more info on " unnecessary termination resistor on the CAN lines (pin 6 and 14)"??

I would add that the basic ELM (assuming it works correctly) on your Punto can only access the Engine and ABS units UNLESS adapter A3 is used.

PCB's are usually diffrent between the ELM327 clones... You need a multimeter to measure the resistance between the pins 6 and 14. If there is a resistor like mentioned above, you then have to use continuity test of the multimeter to trace your way to the resistor on the PCB.

For testing the command sets of the ELM327; If you have an Android phone there is an application called "ELM327 Identifier" by Daaren Fonloil(similar app exists on Windows). It will easily test your adapter. What you're looking for is all green bars from version 1.0 to 1.4. Even if only one command fails, it's no good. And last of all, Bluetooth version 4.0 ELM327 clones are usually buggy with MES/AlfaOBD.

Hm there is no adapter mentioned for servo :chin:. What red colored modules in that list means??
