Hi, when I start my fiat 500 pop start the start stop function cuts in after 5 seconds and shuts the engine down, if I turn it off as soon as I go to move the engine stalls. Any ideas please

Hi. :)

Thats certainly odd

Tell us a little more about the car..

Owned it long..had any work done..

Anything else..? Warning lights..etc

Hi Charlie thanks for the reply,

Had it about 2 weeks, was absolutely fine about 2 hours before this issue started, no work done on car

Hi.

Ok.. so hard to rule out anything much..

But obviously not terrible.

Ok.
IDEALLY you want to get the car read for 'errors'

Devices that plug into the
OnBoard Diagnostics socket are cheap

But garages charge £40 to £100..

The 1 cheap and simple thing you could try:
(Feel free to ask for more info..)

With the bonnet open..
Lock the car with the key

Then uncouple the Black battery cable from the battery

Leave powered down for an hour.. or more

Then reconnect.. make sure its tight

This is essentially a 'reboot' of the cars systems

Its possible its got in a knot..

Just the 1 question..

If you put the key in the car..and turn to 1st stage.. watch all the test lights come and go.. hearing the fuel pump whirr under the back seat..

THEN turn the last bit to start the engine

Does it keep running like this?

Is it the act of 'pulling away' that makes it stop.

If it stops when just idle.. what messages show on the screen??

I have to ask as its an odd one..

Trying the start and idle will be a fair test..

Is the car a manual gearbox + petrol??

Youtube will guide you..

Often the clamp on battery terminal is 'tool free' you just lift a clip..and its loose

Its a good idea to shield the terminal with a plastic bottle cap: sheet of card.. just to isolate it from accidental contact
