I have a '71 Fiat 850 Sport Spider with a modified 903 cc motor (Bigger cam, 32/36 Weber carb, electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump, etc). I just brought the little guy out of a 5 year garage sleep to drive it this summer. I did the obligatory prep work including change the oil, oil filter (it is plumbed for a canister filter) antifreeze, check the carb jets for blockage, and spark plugs. The issue I am having is it will be running just fine and then stall out, sometimes after 5 blocks and sometimes after 5 miles. It stalls at 20 mph as well as 45 mph. It acts like the key was turned off. However, once at a stop i am able to pump the accelerator once and get it restarted.
So, I am looking for some direction on where to start. Or said another way, what is most likely to go bad sitting in an unheated garage in northern Minnesota for all of that time?
I could replace the electronic fuel pump? If that did not do the trick I could start with the coil?? The electronic ignition (Crane Fireball XR700)?? The ????
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
