Technical New key

I'll wait to see what (if) they reply, but no, I'm not about to risk 80€ (or being locked out) unless someone says it'll work.

I get the impression that perhaps the key itself is blank and needs an initial write, in which case, I doubt the in-car reader has a write function.

Unfortunatly, living in a very rural area, key specialists are hundreds of kilometres away.

Key reprogramming can be a risky business. If a Fiat dealer or commercial locksmith company do this and it goes belly up then it is THEIR responsibility to sort the problem.

If you want to do it with MES or any other similar software/hardware then I suggest you do it on a weekday, in the morning, in the dealer's car park or on the road outside so if things do not go according to plan then you are are the best location to get swift help. Als remeber to take your wallet and credit/debit cards :)

No you can’t do it with MES key needs to be prepared for the car first. Either reading the info from the body computer over OBD to get the precoding information then programming to the car. Or by reading it from the ignition switch and writing the key in directly.
The actual programming to the car should be possible with MES but actually preparing the key so the car will accept it is well beyond MES or dealer tools capabilities.

Thanks, I suspected it would be something like that.

I guess I'll give it a miss, doubt there is someone within 300km who could program it.

The shop never replied, well not yet, anyway.
