New to the club. I'm the owner of an '86 Bertone X1/9 - that I'm in the process of restoring. Here to get tips and info. Right now I'm shopping for (14"/6") wheels and tires.

Cheers…

Welcome!

There are some options available. I got mine on EBay. Look for wheels with the 4x98mm bolt pattern with a 15mm offset. You may also want to check Vick Autosports, who usually has some pretty good deals.

I went with 15x6.5, and that is about the limit to use with a stock suspension. However, 15" tires are so much easier to find than 13 or 14".

Thanks Skillmaker!… I'm looking at 14" wheels - from what I've read, and speaking with my mechanic, I think 15" would be too big for the look I want - and I'd have to compensate with 45 low-profile tires (which I think would make the ride a little rough). How does your X handle with 15" whhels? What size tires are you riding on?

I found a few nice 4x98 - I came across this site Performance Alloys website. They're in England - but they have the 14"/6" wheels in the 4x98 bolt pattern. The only difference I see is that the hub center is 58.1 (vs. 58.2 for the Panasport wheels). I don't think that small difference a big deal?

I am still in the midst of restoring mine. HUUUGE project. I expect to have it running and back on all fours in about 2 months. I'll be able to let you know how it rides after that! I have never driven this X1/9. Was a real basket case when I purchased it.

I am running 194/45 -15 Toyo Proxes. The sidewall actually looks pretty good. I attached a couple pictures.

You can see the basket case I started with in my restoring 82 x1/9 thread in this site.

(I've also attached a picture of a green X that has the same size/style wheels. Mine will look similar when done).

Thanks for sharing the pics!… The 15" wheels look a little too big for my tastes. Are those Abarth wheels? They look like Panasport. I've been trying to decide between Panasports (which are more period specific), or with my gut - I did a quick Photoshop with my top 4 (see attachment) - you have a preference?

Good luck with your restoration!

Thanks!… (…I've asked a bunch of friends, and the preferences are all over the place, with no clear winner) - B is my #1 choice :) - they're Avus Racing Spyder Hyper Silver 14"x6" (4x98)

D look more period. B look good but less retro...

What wheels does your X have currently blackhous?
