You can't check the oil in the 6 speed M32 gearbox fitted to most Cromas. The only way to check is to drain the gearbox and put the correct quantity of new oil in. The drain plug is on the side of the differential housing at the bottom of the gearbox near where the driveshafts fit. The filler is on the top of the gearbox on a flat area. It has a hex (allen) recess. They are often very tight, you may need a hex bit that fits on a socket set extension and breaker bar. It's easier to get to if you take the battery and battery box out.
You should add 2.2 litres of new oil. The oil specification is SAE 75W-85 - API GL-4 This may be hard to find, try a Vauxhall / Opel garage if having trouble, the Vectra C uses the same M32 gearbox. There are pictures of the drain an fill plugs on this old Bravo thread, but note the use of the side level plug is incorrect, DO NOT USE THE SIDE PLUG TO CHECK THE LEVEL!

The oil quantity was increased to prevent premature bearing failures.

Hope this helps
