Hi everybody,

I'm planning to buy a set of run-flat winter tires for my 500L Trekking, along with the rims and TMPS sensors - the tirerack.com will assemble and balance everything for me; on their website they say that the sensors that they install are compatible with the car, and everything should work like a charm - I assume that means after the wheels are mounted on the car no re-set is required, the system will pick it up by itself...
Does anybody have any experience with the after-market wheels and TMPS sensors (preferably from the TireRack) on 500L?

any input is greatly appreciated, thanks much!

I have plenty of experience with run flat tires

My advice would be don't bother, too expensive they wear quickly and are far too hard on the suspension and your spine.

I agree with this, most questions about run flats you seem to see in forums are about how to make the switch the other way ie from run flats to std.

I actually have a pretty good experience with the run-flats, been using them for the last 8 years with my previous cars; I would certainly feel better on them rather than with this glue-pump fix-a-flat solution (TIREFIT) that this car came with

my concern is - whether or not the 3-rd party TPMS sensors will give me troubles. any thoughts on that?

I think this is a pretty specialist question TBH. One better directed to your FIAT dealer or the run flat tyre supplier.

I don't think there are enough members here who have the expereience to be able to answer...hope you get sorted :)

thanks for your answer! yeah, hopefully it all will work out as planned :)

And, did it work out as planned ? Please let us know :)

it totally did! sorry for the delay, with all the holidays and stuff I lost focus
:)
actually, the last piece fell in place on 12/31/14 - the new wheel locks were finally installed

so, here is the story - I got the tires and rims pre-mounted by the tirerack.com, and the TPMS sensors were installed also; when we put the wheels on, the sensors picked up immediately, no configuration was needed. Since the new rims were thicker than the original ones, my OEM wheel locks ("bolt locks") were no good; I found the new locks [online] here -

Otis Inc, LA

this place has wheel accessories for most, if not all European cars, and the people here are amazingly helpful and friendly

end of story. full success. I love my winter tires! (we just got some snow a couple of days ago - the first test was very encouraging)

thanks!
