I second the Goodyear Duragrip.
My little puddle-jumper was bad on road roar with standard wheels/tyres, especially on roads surfaced with granite chippings (Wales, Scotland - some authorities have a thing about granite!).
So I bought a set of 14" wheels and fitted Duragrip 175/65R x 14's. Big difference in road roar, and an improvement in comfort also.
These are standard on many 500's, so you may be able to pick up a set cheap, as some 500 owners buy a new car and immediately change to alloys, selling off the unused wheels. Saw a set of four on EBay recently for £40 starting price, with no takers.
