Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to give me a rough idea of what the problem may be with my wife's 2007 Grande Punto (1.2). The orange engine light has come on and subsequently gone out a few times in the past few weeks so I got a Bluetooth OBD2 device and pulled the codes on the iPad (I can't post links to please replace hxxp with http):

After a bit of reading it seems I should first get the spark plugs checked but I became a little more concerned looking at some of the other info presented in the app:

Should I be concerned that the 'Timing' is sat on such a low value? I'm sure that the timing belt was replaced on the last service. Also, the 'Intake Temp' seems rather high. Do either of these things in combination with the P0300/P0302 codes suggest anything more ominous than dodgy spark plugs?

was the cambelt done by a fiat dealer or a fiat specialist? if not was a Phonic wheel learn done?

IF the timing is out it could cause a misfire due the cam been out of sinc with the crank.... does the light come on when you get up to motorway speeds?

Ht leads can be a bit fragile if they have been removed by a rough handed goon

Do you have a problem starting the car by any chance eg the revs drop off when first starting and the car cuts out?

Hi Andy, the service was done at a Fiat dealership (running of the place had just changed from Sunwin to Bristol Street Motors at the time).

There haven't been any worrying symptoms at all (yet!) apart from the orange light. No obvious or strange noises and no noticeable engine misbehaviour. To a layperson such as myself though, the numbers/dials shown in the OBD2 data seem off.

edit: I just remembered something which may be important - the app also had a 'Lambda' readout which scales from 'lean' to 'rich'. The needle on that was too and froing from opposite ends of that scale about once every second - is that normal?

try swapping ht lead 2 with 3 and see what happens ....

eg if you move the plug caps over and the fault moves to cyl 3... its a lead / coil issue..

if it stays #2 at fault chances are its the plug

70degC intake temps seem too high, unless the data was taken from a hot engine that had sat a while before restarting and being scanned (heatsoak into the sensor)- it should never be higher than the coolant temp, certainly.

Not sure on the timing figure, as it's not completely clear what it's specifically trying to tell you, but the P0300 Generic misfire error and recent cambelt change indicate the phonic wheel learn was not done, as Andy says.

I wouldn't rely completely on all the data from that App- 232 lbft torque from a 1.2 is a bit suspect! lol
