You're right in thinking that cold air is best. I am running a modified stock air box as the power gains are usually better than after market air filters (as proven in a group test by performance car magazine) and it doesn't cost anything. Plus it saves me having to relocate the ECU that lives on the housing.I don't understand the whole induction kit thing. The stock air filter box takes outside (cold) air in, whereas that would be taking warm air from under the bonnet. Don't you get more expansion (therefore power) from colder air?

There's also a sound baffling flap inside the air box that you can remove - this also opens its throat up so it can breathe properly.
It also lets out the beautiful turbocharger song. Pensioners often head to their air raid shelters when I drive past.
What did you modified on the box ? Its interesting, can you give more details please ?
