Hi Guys,

Im haveing a bit of bother with the GP...Again seems to be one thing after another at the moment and am afraid to say i'm getting fed up with it all (n)
Last night I drove to a friends house and noticed the milage flashing on the dash I have done a search that suggests it could be the battery?
during my jurney I went to turn the radio on..... Nothing tried with the steering wheel controll and the button on the head unit still nothing. This morning I returned from my friends house to see both issue are still there.

I have done a search and found about a software error? I disconected the battery as suggested on the other thread and reattached it with no luck.
I have also searche the head unit issue with no difinative answer so please dont tell me to use the search bar because I have :p

I have had no termanal cover on the battery since I brought it 4 month ago and no matter how much I try to find one none fit or no one has any so was looking at this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390443998804?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 was going to get this and wrap it in vinly as im not into the chrome does anyone know if this will fit?

I am guessing the problems are connected an that they both come down to the battery termanals being gunked up. would it be as easy as cleaning up the termanals and reconecting the battery? I would like the radio on asap as i'm off to the goole meet in a couple of week and will need a radio.

luck foward to your suggestions.

Hi Andy thanks for the reply. Yes I was going to clean them when I got a cover I have just ordered a carbonfiber effect battery cover so will wait until that arives. I have no CANCHECK as its an aftermarket unit but I do have my original unit so will try that. I only had the battrey disconected for about 10 mins. hopefully when I clean it all the battery will be diconected for a while longer. if it is the CAMCHECK thing will disconecting the battery work? and will it get rid of the flashing milage?

Thanks.

ok just been out and plugged original head unit in there is no power running through it at all and does not say CANCHECK I have check for any loose wires I have checked the fuse in the unit (dont know where the fuse box one would be if any) battery is showing no symptoms of a dieing battery car starts up on que and lights dont seem dim or anything like that. As I said I will clean the termanals when the cover and terminal brush arive.
I will own a car that works one day :(
Just getting fed up with it being one thing after another now i'v had the car 4 month and its been in and out of a garage 5 times now

how long ago did you install the aftermarket Radio? did you do it your self or let someone else do it? did you properly isolate the Canbus wiring which often gets connected to aftermarket radios in error and can lead to damage to the canbus network in your car

flashing dash is the Canbus error message for 'Something is wrong with the network'

Hi there Jordan , sorry to hear your having a nitemare with your car . When the mileage flashes this means that one of the control units on your can system is either faulty or has a wiring problem etc . Best advice is to have it plugged onto a diagnostic machine for a better idea of what's wrong . ;)

I fitted the radio myself about 4 month ago I have fitted them in the past with no problems. if this is the problem how would it be fixed? sounds expensive :bang:

Thanks my mate has one of them diagnostic computermabobs will ask him to hook it up if cleaning the termanals dont work.

if you did a straight forward swap then you won't have isolated the new radio from the canbus data lines which is where the problem most likely is

Surely this isn't the case as it worked normally at one point?

If you don't do that then it won't work full stop, i.e it'll stay on all the time or won't turn on with the engine or some other wierd stuff (right?!).

This might be it then, I have been ok until now but I have always been able to turn the unit on without a key in the ignition but my steering wheel controlls only work with the engine running. I do always turn the unit off though but keep the front of the unit attached in my old mk2 (simular head unit) I used to take the front of the unit to kill the power where as this one I just turn it off with the button until it beeps at me.

@Most Eastely Pandas so what you are saying is I need the diagnostic code reader checker thing before I can pin point exactly what the problem is?

EDIT: I have just spoke to my mate with the code reader hes going to let me use it when he picks it up from his brothers house.

If you still can't get it working you could pop down into Mansfield and pop into AFH1 http://www.afh1.co.uk/ or give them a ring,

Martin should be able to sort you out is busy at the moment but is always willing to give a hand and check stuff out Alfa & Fiat specialist. Always worth a shot

If you go in with Foxs biscuits might even get a bigger discount haha
