I noticed a whiff of petrol fumes in the cabin today so when I got home I had a look under the bonnet and there seems to be a couple of splits in what I think is the breather pipe. It runs round the side of the air box at the dipstick side and round the back.

I've taken a couple of photos to highlight the issue. Perhaps someone here can confirm if this is said "breather pipe". Will be phoning the dealers tomorrow as the car is still in its second year of warranty and I really need it to go a long trip on Wednesday.

Comes out of the engine near the oil filler and into the airbox?

Then yeah, and its not uncommon to break.

Found one of Andy's posts. Looks like the pipe in his picture - though mine is the 1.4 8v its virtually identical to the 1.2.

They use the same induction system. The pipe comes to around £12 inc delivery from shop4parts

Surely its a warranty job on a car that's only 22 months old?
Need it fixed asap so can't wait on postage of the part.

Could it be OK to duct take it up as a short term fix?

Got the hose replaced today under warranty. Taped the old one up to drive to the dealers with the window open for some fresh air - bloody cold this morning!

Anyway seems fine now although the new hose looks to be of the same material as the old one so how long before the replacement splits along the seam?

Answer: today

Ordered a replacement off eBay (the newer type), will follow Andy's guide on installation as my car is out of warranty now.
