Hi,

As a newbie I would like to thank you all for an excellent forum - it seems to have loads of advice that is relevant :)

On to my issue, over the last month or so I have noticed a problem with the power steering - it just cuts out and I have to develop super-muscles to control the car (the wife isn't too happy either) The power steering light does come on just after this happens, but the strange thing is that if you turn the car off and restart it, it works fine (puzzled). Another fact to mention is that this does not happen every time ...

I have seen a few posts here relating to steering columns, so was wondering if this is indicative of a steering column fault, or something more sinister (ECU) ? The reason I mention ECU is that there are some other anomolies with the car - 'electronic fault' light on dashboard comes on for no apparent reason (very sporadic) and the car tends to jolt when decelerating/accelerating around corners when the fule gauge is around one quarter ...

Any advice would be welcome, and if anyone knows of a Fiat specialist in or around Cambridgeshire could they please send me the details ?

Mucho Regards
Nick

Has your car been in for the ECU re-program? there was a manufacturing fault on the ECU in 1.2 8v engine in the mk2 punto and it was recalled. Might be worth phoneing a Fiat dealer and find out.

that recall has nothing too do with steering or even rough running, its suposed too stop the coil outputs from dieing.
your problems with your power steering nick sounds a bit tricky too say the least, intermitent faults like that a the hardest too track down in the workshop.
