thats all i get when i try to load a website, happened when i turned the laptop on for what seems to be no reason. i thought it was because the internet options had to be "auto detect settings" but that didnt work :(

repaied/disabled connection, restarted laptop, restarted router etc.

msn works but thats it

any ideas? cheers!

its most likely to be a tcp/ip setup problem.

right click on network places then click on properties.
highlight the tcp/ip for the network card, then click properties.
in IP address make sure its set to obtain auotmatically.
in DNS make sure its Enabled
if you have any numbers in the server search remove them
(make sure you write these numbers down in case this does not work)
click apply, then ok.

does it work now?

if not, try

cheers jug, ill go get the laptop (y)

another fix is to uninstall the wireless card and delete the wireless connection, then reinstall both using the CD's.

if that works it suggests some malware has altered the settings, so get scanning for malware.

IT might help if you tell us how the computer with the problem is connected to the Network and what components connect them.

E.G

One all in one Modem+Router and all computers connect to the net through the router using a Wire.

One Modem going into a router etc

One Modem going into a computer (Main computer) and other computers connect to the net via the main computer.

For cases like these it is usually a DNS resolution or gateway problem

lol Jug, i've punched the keyboard but that didn't help :p.

the laptop is connected through a usb wireless adaptor.

the computer is connectoed to the router via a card in the back.

the laptop is right next to the router so i've tried it through the wiress connection and via the network cable, both work and connect up as msn works but internet explorer will only say "website found" then say page cannot be displayed :(

i've also tried system restore which didn't work.

Couple of Options for you.

Start Menu > Run : Type "CMD" then when the prompt appears type "ipconfig /release"

When its done you should be left with 0.0.0.0 on your network Card

Then type "ipconfig /renew"

IF that doesn't work goto 'Control Panel' double click on 'System' select the 'Hardware Tab' and then click 'Device Manager'.

Expand the 'Network Adapters' menu and uninstall your network adapters.

Then disconnect all network cables and wireless recievers.

Restart your computer and wait for the devices to be reinstalled. when they are reinstalled restart your computer again and when Windows has fully booted plug the network cables and wireless recievers back in.

Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

Good Luck.
