After going up the strip at Santa Pod I've caught the drag racing bug, especially as I only live 10mins from it. Thing is my Cinq is much better at whizzing down B roads than straight line speed so I want to get either an Uno Turbo or Punto GT turbo. Just wanted to see what ppl think of both cars and a comparison of the two. I love the looks of the UT but finding a decent one seems hard, there are alot more GTs to choose from but thats what kinda puts me off! Hoping for a budget of £3k max but that has to include some mods.

Oh and which is quicker?

I agree with the last comment, the uno is the quicker out of the two cars but dont forget the maintenance costs and finding parts for UTs these days is getting harder and harder. The GT and Mark 2 UT share a similar engine design so finding engine parts for them isnt as bad as finding mark 1 UT parts. BUT if all that hasnt put you off i'd say deffinately get an UT as they are so cool and retro (especially mark 1s) and you will definately appreciate driving something different around.

 F R O $ T Y

Whats the best size wheel to run on a UT in terms of acceleration and handling? I would like to stick my 14x6 Comp MOs on a UT they are ET35, any idea if they'd fit??

I really like the Mk2 UT, how much would I be looking to pay for a nice one?

arent they the same engine?

i seen to remeber dunc telling me that punto gts weight more than the unos.

i myself want a a puntoGT but take a look at duncs UT and youll see they are better looking cars! but prone to more rust being the older car

with the PGT a seb0 or seb2 setup (not sure which) will map the ecu for different fueling ect and mean a max of 160-170 bhp is acheivable. then for ~200bhp seb4.11 (more uprated parts needed turbo ect) *

*info as far as i am sure of, check puntosports for more info on sebs

EDIT: get a mk1, they are proper old skool kool

Ditching the Cento? Or are you going for a Fiat in the drive for every mood.

Good to see you on here mate!

No don't worry, I plan on keeping the Cento. Don't think I could afford the 40mile round trip to work everyday in a UT. I'm planning on keeping the UT for shows/trackdays/Santa Pod!

tbh mate, both are good cars.

between me and a few of my close mates we had 3x UTs and 2x punto gts. pgt's arent always the slowest as a drag race between us will see me frst by a fair way, one of the punto gt's 2nd, and the a pretty close 3rd between the other 2 ut's and other pgt. so unos arent always quickest.

also, depends on how much of an enthusiast u are. pgt's parts are 100x more readily available both 2nd hand and new from fiat with them being made up until 1999. mk2 ut parts are easier to get hold of compared to mk1 ut's, but its actually finding a solid ut thats gonna be ur problem. some are out there, so dont just buy one thats for sale at like £300 cos its gonna be a shed. if ur mega flush, when mines resprayed, chuck us £5500 and its urs ;) lol

Hmmmm, don't tempt me :) At least it would go from one Dunc to another.

I'm going to avoid the cheaper ones, what sort of condition would £2K get me??

Another question, which handles better??

hehe, this is true ;)

out of the box, neither the UT or pgt handled amazingly, but fit a set of good suspension, some strut braces and this will soon sharpen them up. its a shame fiat didnt get the handling spot on when they made these cars. only down fall really.

bit of seam welding, roll cage, front and rear strut braces, some coilovers and a full set of powerflex bushes and i think ive just about sorted my handling ;) lol :D
